Mosin Nagant question...

So far, I've gathered that it was run in '41, and the upper reciever is marked with a "D". I believe it to be a 91/30, but cannot be sure, as though WW2 era weaponry fascinates me, I'm not very well educated on them haha. I can also say that the flip-up sight is fully intact and accurate, and the weapon fires well. Also, if this helps with value or anything, it has never been re-touched or anything, and has the original sling.

Typed all of that and didnt even put the question haha. the question would be about the value of the weapon, and info on any other markings to look for.

The "D" mark indicates that the Mosin may be Finnish, it means that the throat was opened up to accept the Finnish D166 heavy ball round.

Is there also an "SA" mark on it?

Garufa, I don't have it on hand, but I will look ASAP. Where would I find this marking?

post up some pics of the rifle if you can (or want to )

some of us mosin buffs can give you a more accurate quote on value if you would like.

value will go up. The market has been flooded with these, but that will end and then the value will creep up towards at least 300+ over the next decade or so. Just leave it alone. Shoot it, sure, but don't feel compelled to sand the stock or refinish it or otherwise screw with it. Left alone, it will accrue collector value slowly, and you can always mess it up in the future if you decide you want to keep it forever as a custom gun. Once it is messed up, it will never be collectable again.

Depends. You have pics? And yes, if it is a Finnish made, or was once owned by the Finnish military, the value may be higher, as Garufa is pointing directly to.

Careful! These things multiply!

I love how it stopped giving me notifications on the thread...Guys, I found out a lot from a family friend, Jon, who happened to be Finnish and fought in the war.

He said that it was in fact of Finnish production and offered me 450 for it. Worth it?

well that is a GREAT deal for a Finnish 91/30.....must be something special about it that we just dont know about with the information given (no slant to you, just saying) i have some pretty rare Mosin Nagants (Sestros and Westys and Remmy's) and I do not think any of those are worth $450?! Do you know if it is Tula (big star on receiver) or Izzy (wreath w/ a sickle)

if it is a 41 dated 91/30 finn rifle i would sell it to him but not seeing it you could have something rare that we do not know about..the 41 on the barrel is the barrel date only.if the 42 is on the side of the reciever it is a finn mark. the date the rifle was made is on the bottom of the tang and you have to take it out of the stock to see it.i have a 1893 tika finn rifle with a 41 dated replacement barrel.

I took the deal gents. He said it had sentimental value, so I had to let it go haha.

Whatever he started cradling it and smiling as soon as I gave it to him haha.

Well worth every bit of $450.

awww didnt even get to see pics.

And yeah, if it was a Finn made 91/30 that was a good price. Unless it was a rare one. If it was something else Finn made, may be not?

Well, I got it for a hundred, so I'm not complaining. He's happy with it haha.

Yeah I think Hilly did the right thing, giving a friend the opportunity to own something he truely treasures and making a nice profit on top of it. Good on ya!
