And congrats to you, brother, on taking DC in ESP. As usual, you da' man!

This was my first time to shoot the KY-TN match, but it won't be my last. Thanks to Steve and all the SO's for a great match.

Had a whole tasty pig to choose from for lunch. Then get home and get only a selected cut for supper.

The weather forecast was scary a day or two before the match but the day turned out fantastic. Had a blast!

Great weather, great squad, great match and great pig! Can't ask for more. I've got to know a couple of fellow wheelgunners at some matches and it was good to hang out with them----OK, the semi guys were cool too LOL!

Wheelguns? Those things won't ever catch on lol

LOL! I don't know, I had some lengthy conversations at the match with some guys about running them. I think one of them might have been catseye (?). He seemed pretty serious about it  .

I was one of the semi guys squadded with you, and I have to admit that you may have convinced me to become a wheelgun convert. I ordered a 686 SSR this weekend after the match. A revolver will definitely be more challenging, but it looks like a heck of a lot of fun, too!

Good to hear! The 686 is a great revolver as it is but the SSR model just takes it to the next level. I like all my 686s but there is something about the balance of my ssr that is perfect. I talked to a few folks about revolvers at Henry County and it may have been you I told, but I've kept my 686ssr completely stock (except for adding a F/O front sight, which is interchangeable) and I plan to keep it that way. I think you'll have a blast with it!

My buddy Rickey is really into the wheelguns. He shot the match as well. He's an ssr ex and loves those things. I'll stick with my 1911s though

Yes sir, it was me. Thanks for sharing the information. It really was a pleasure to watch you shoot, and I hope I wasn't a distraction with all of my questions.

Initially I plan to leave the SSR stock but, like you, I'll probably put an FO front sight on it. Which model do you have on yours?

I'm hoping to have everything in place equipment-wise so that I can give the revolver a whirl (pun intended) beginning some time during the '13 shooting season.

Best of luck with the rest of your matches this year.

No distraction at all, I'm glad to talk revos! I have SDM F/O on my 625 and 686. Nice, bright and easy to change out if needed. I keep a tru-glo on my 629, it's nice also, but I mainly keep it there because I hunt with it and the F/O is covered.

And remember, you can always run 357 in that dude and shoot ESR- LOL!

Thanks! Hope to see you in the division next year!

I looked at the SDM web site, and the sights look impressive. What height did you get for your 686? Do you still run the stock rear sight?

Thanks again for putting up with all my questions...

Glad to help! I believe mine was .250 and I do use the factory rear sight. I would say yours will be .250 also, but you want to find out for sure. What you'll need to do when you get your 686ssr in is take the front sight off (push back and then up, it'll come right out) and put the calipers to it from the very top to the very bottom of the sight. That measurement will either be .3 or .25. Whichever one it is, order that size and you'll be good to go with your rear sight.

While you've got the sight out, put a drop of oil on the base spring. You'll be good to go. Then all you've got to do is figure out your speedloaders, holster, and dial in your round and let the fun begin!

sbc my wife and I were also in your squad which was a good one. My wife just started shooting late last year and we both need more practice. I was very impressed on how well you shoot the revolover.

My 686 should arrive at the local gun shop today. I've got a Ready Tactical holster and speed loader holders on the way from CPWSA, and found some Safariland Comp III's on sale at Midway. Now I just need to get to the mailbox before my wife does and I'll be good to go...

Just out of curiosity, did anyone notice anybody shooting a gun my size or smaller at the competition? I was shooting a little Kimber Ultra CDP II.

Only been shooting IDPA for about a year and I don't believe I've ever witnessed anyone shooting a Nano, 642, LCP, LCR, Body Guard, Solo, etc. Or for that matter, I don't even recall anyone shooting a .380 or any other defensive mouse gun.

Guess most people want the competitive edge or don't carry the "Mouse"?

That's some good gear you've got coming in. Yes, definitely beat the wife to the mail LOL!

I didn't see anything in that flavor of gun.
