Does "auto save" also "auto post?"

Recommended Posts

Seen this happen a couple times, with posts I've made, and either edited in seconds or completely wiped.

What I initially posted, THEN corrected, is quoted in someone else's reply as it was BEFORE the edit or erasure, well after the posting time. How does one "quote" something that has been changed or deleted? WTH is going on? Does the software autopost AS it autosaves without the poster's knowledge?

Before you corrected/changed it, someone else has already loaded the thread. That more or less freezes it to them. They can then click 'Quote'. That captures the original content to their "reply" window. It then took them some time to finish their thoughts and hit 'Post', so you were able to correct/change it...time lapses....they finally hit post. So a long delay in their loading the thread until clicking Quote, or a long delay from then until clicking Post will result in a funny looking time delay.

What happened is that someone quoted your text before you made the edit. Any quotes before the edit, will show how it was before the edit.

Quotes are nothing super fancy that autoupdate based off what the original person posted. You can literally type in whatever you want in the quotes for the person, that doesn't mean they actually said it. Just because it is a "quote" does not link it in any way to what someone actually said.

There is the ongoing joke of when someone says something, they will quote them and change a word to make it humorous or ironic and say "fixed".

Autosave will keep you from losing what you're trying to type and post if you happen to have a browser crash or fat-finger something and go back a screen while you're typing. If you come back to a reply box and start to post again, you will notice an option to restore auto-saved content.
