New caster

After spending months accumulating all the gear I need for casting bullets, I set up outside today and mixed some casting alloy.

I mixed 3 parts lead to one part linotype to get a alloy that will approximate Wheel Weights for .45 ACP SWCs.

Look at the 'dimples' that formed on the bottom of the ingots that I poured into a 'teflon' lined muffin tin.

What caused this effect.

I did cast 5 .309 bullets from the pure lead before adding lino. I will use these to slug the barrels on a couple of rifles that I plan to shoot cast through.

The dimples are from the Teflon cooking off the pan. It'll be fine. Sooner or later the coating will burn off and it'll stop doing that but it doesn't matter.

Id move it out in the yard sometimes its hard to get the lead off the concrete. My burner swings out from under my kettle and my kettle will dump/tilt and pour into 15lb ingots that I made the mold out of 3in channel which is on a tray that I can swing under my pot so I can pore directly out of my kettle into the mold It's a pretty good set up it works good no ladles or anything like that.just pull the arm and fill the molds.

Topical arthritis treatment. Normally a couple of PBRs will make the pain go away, but I learned(the hard way, LOL) not to drink and play with molten metal at the same time.

Actually, I use it to spray the mold when I am through casting. Makes it easier to clean with a toothbrush and mineral spirits next session.

Nice setup, looks kinda like mine.

If you have a lot of pure lead, I have some range and WW lead, swap?

Yes, I make my own ingot.

I am in Mt Juliet, how far are you from Nashville.

Do you know how hard you lead is, I have a hardness tester.

We can compare and work things out.

Mamma just reinforced your message. I will lay down a sheet of plywood in the future. My back is too bad to be crawling on my hands and knees and getting up scrap lead out of exposed aggregate.
