I had a Gamo Silver Shadow 1000 that I just recently sold. I liked it just fine, it seemed to be made well and was very accurate. I only sold it because I didn't use it much and needed the money more than I needed the gun.

Own 2 of them. The first was the off the shelve standard break down pellet gun with fiber stock. Shoots really well but could not get the scope I mounted on it to zero well.

Ordered the 2nd one, a Whisper from Midway and its fantastic to plink with off the back porch. We have a blackbird problem and this helps to correct the issue. The only drawback is again, the scope which came with it seems pretty decent but I could not get it to zero reliably. I just took it off and use the iron peep sights. It also came with the new PBR pellets and they shoot at 1200 FPS! You get quite a report from this puppy using the PBRs.

Would recommend these well made pellet guns.

I have a gamo shadow I think it is called. It is pretty accurate and have killed many nuisance animals with it. I bought a cheap scope for it last year, but really didn't need it.. It is nice and quiet.

I have one of the early Gamo target models with the Lothar Walther barrel. It is used for off hand practice and is extremely accurate. The other one I have is the Extreme Hunter and shoots PBA pellts at 1650 fps. The trigger on this one is awful and while it is an accurate rifle, the trigger keeps me from being able to shoot one hole groups. My partner has the Shadow and it may be the best value. I have killed several pigeons with it behind our office.

If you buy one, make sure you spend time on mounting the scope, particuliarly the scope mount. Use Loctite on all screws and make sure the anchor screw, which screws down into a hole in the receiver, is properly seated.

Air rifles, as you probably know, recoil differently from conventional firearms and will destroy a scope not designed for them. Plus the more powerful rifles, like the Extreme Hunter, will destroy the mount if it is not properly attached. Unfortunately, the manuals do not go into any detail about mounting either the scope or scope mount.

I had a Gamo with a Lothar Walter barrel when I was a teen. It was one of the first

with a ten round magazine and extremely accurate. That was 35+ years ago. After reading this thread I am thinking about another one.

I've owned 5 of them......

They Twang, are prone to broken springs, and over state velocity claims.

Having said that I'd still own another one. But would have newer springs, and seals replaced. I like to think of them as what get you in to AirGun addiction.

I moved up from there to High End Springs..Beeman, ..HW

Then in PCP rifles. I have some pics if any one wants to see what they can do.

They're not toys any more. And I want all my PB to have triggers like my

airguns.

What size game will one of these take down?

Mine would probably take down a large squirrel with a head shot from around 15-20 yards. But since I don't have permission of my neighbor to hunt wild animals within 100 yards of her house, and I do not have a license to hunt squirrel, and they are not in season anyway I wouldn't know.:stare:

My uncle had one for about a week that he could not get sighted in. Sent it back to Gamo and last I heard they were still trying to make it right.

I watched a hunting show where a fellow killed two wild hogs with an Extreme Hunter. The first one weight about 15 lbs and the second, 25 lbs. Both were taken with frontal head shots. Prior to the hunt he tested the rifle on 2x4's and the skull of a cow. The PBA pellets penetrated the wood and the skull without any problem.
