Well, I picked it up... would a Tru Glo 2x red dot be a good optic option for it?

I would say yes...that sort of pistol is kind of like a thompson contender...basically a short rifle..good for longer ranges than a traditional pistol...but that depends on your personal preference and its only my opinion.
