VEPR!!!!

Ohhhhhhh these are NICE! I'm just a little excited. :woohoo: One that Centerfire had them on sale for $499 and two how incredibly beautiful these things are. The wood is very nice and finished very well and I'm tempted to leave the wood on this one, but I won't. It desires to be a military gun. I'll leave the wood on the .308!

The gun itself is beautiful. It truly is the Cadilac of the AK world. Hardly any machine marks, bolt and carrier are the best finished I've ever seen on an AK (Saiga's included) and the action is butter. It is a bit heavy (8 lbs. with wood furniture) but the trade off is a heavey RPK (1.6mm) reciever, and a heavy barrel. Unlike some of the other v.1 VEPR's this one does no have the barrel threaded or plunger dilled. However, that is easy to remedy. The VEPR's use the RPK rear sight.

On the inisde it has a round front trunnion (for bullet guide) and uses a retaining plate instead of the wire shepherds crook. All pluses IMO. The only negative is that the single hook trigger is not as good as the Tapco G2, but again easy remedy.

At the original $650+ these are going for these are worth every penny. At $499, i couldn't let it go.

Even the box is nice (for a Russian AK Box ;))

RPK resr sight is much nice than Saiga neutered sights.

Nice. Does standard AK furniture fit those? While the wood is pretty, not sure I could deal with that stock.

The stock actually fits and feels really nice. If I every get the cash to get a .308, I'll leave it on that one.

I have an extra ACE skelton stock on a folding hinge sitting in the closet that I'm going to put on this. Carolinashooterssupply has a internal reciever block adapter that works for these. I'll have the pics up tonight with the stock and adapter.

I would love to order up a 16.5" 308 and about 10 of those 20 rd magazines. Put on a decent sight set up, and have a nice "home defense" rifle for the end of the world.

I was thinking the 20" would be the perfect *median* for HD/hunting :) Put a decent scope on it and call it a day :)

Someone here has (had?) a .308 16" Saiga that I got to shoot. It was shatteringly loud and blew a 12" long fireball out of the muzzle. It was freakin' awesome! That said, I'd probably get the 20" just for accuracy.

Just a follow up. Got to shoot the VEPR today and I'm more impressed than ever. Very easy to shoot and the irons are the easiest AK sights I've ever used.

I'm still waiting on the new forearm but the Ace stock, MD arms Molot grip, and Carolina shooters internal recovery block, all worked extremely well.

This is one smooth operating and shooting gun.
