Larry Davidson's Monkey Grips

Recommended Posts

That sudden release of seismic wave energy in the earth's crust that some of you might have just felt was my fault.

I finally install something other than wood grips on a 1911.

Larry Davidson's Warthogs in Black & Gray. Installed on my worn-in, but never worn-out SA fully loaded.

.... micarta?

I think all of Larry's grips are G10.

Very happy with the way that these grips match up with the S&A magwell.

Also, never had a left grip panel with the mag release thumb cutout. Reckon I'm sort of stepping out of my traditional, old-school thinking that 1911s should only have cocobolo, rosewood, or walnut grips with full or double diamond checkering.

I had some of Larry's Warthog grips on one of my Springfield or Kimber 1911s in the past. VERY grippy. I actually ended up taking very fine aluminum-oxide sanding paper to them and knocking them down a little because I found them too rough for concealed carry. They were literally tearing up my undershirts. :)

Undershirts! David, I can see where having these Warthogs on a firearm being carried IWB would be a problem.

This old fully loaded has been my IDPA & 3Gun-Heavy Metal sidearm for near 10 years. Now that cooler weather is coming, I wanted something that I could grip well while wearing gloves.

One of these days I'm going to send this 1911 back to the SA custom shop for a bit of refreshing...., maybe some front strap checkering. But for now it'll run just fine the way it is.

BTW - - - For those who have never seen holster wear on a stainless firearm, here is what it looks like. :tough:
