Hey New to the area wondering where the best deals are for firearms new or used for retired military in the Clarksville area

All things considered ffl fees, quality of hardware, customer service,

Also where the best deal for ammo is rifle and handgun.

Apparently I walked into the wrong gun store the other day and was met with very rude service I'm not gonna drop the stores name out of respect for business so if Amy one can give me some insight I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

I've always had good service at Tennessee Gun Country, down 41A towards Dover Road. They do military discounts (as well as LE/FF), so I'm sure your retired ID is sufficient. I've bought guns and holsters there a few times. They have always been polite; not too pushy but certainly not ignoring the customer.

The gun shop in the hardware store (near the overpass) I've stayed away from. Went in there a couple of times 6 years ago to browse and inquire about FFL transfers and was appalled at the attitude I got.

From what I hear there is a new gun shop that opened up off of Tiny Town a year or so ago. I haven't been in there to check it out; I don't even recall the name of it.

Then there is Allen's Gun Shop off of Dover Road, just a couple miles away from Tennessee Gun Country. I haven't been in there before, so I can't say anything good or bad about it.

As far as ammo, I get it at wally world.

Welcome to TGO and Clarksville. There are several gunshops in the area, just get around and meet the owners and see what they offer in the way of Discounts to retired military. I personaly use Gun Country. But check out some of our venders here on TGO. These Guys and Gals are awesome folks to deal with! I've heard nothing but good things! I live off of Dover Road and have been treated rudely at that local gun store on Dover Road. Will not go back, nor reccomend them to anyone.

Welcome to TGO and welcome to Clarksville. I've done business at TN Gun Country and at Allen's Gun Shop and I have good and bad experiences at both. I've been shopping at Clarksville Guns and Archery on Golf Club Lane and Madison Street. Great selection and friendly, knowledgeable service. I haven't tried the place on Tiny Town, but I hear its really small which could be good or bad. Grandpa's at 41A and 101 Parkway is just not my kinda place, I've never been able to see eye to eye about much of anything with those folks.

Thanks for the info I liked Allen's gun shop they were very polite although prices were unusually high on some guns the used selection is nice to see but nothing I wanted to over pay for. Plus they offered me a discount of 10% not that it helps a whole lot

lol.

Does anyone know the name of the shop on tiny town?

Clarksville guns and archery had a nice selection the staff was knowledgeable and friendly prices were decent on some stuff although no military discount isn't as inviting as I'd like.

I have yet to check out grandpa's I will do

I went down to TN gun country an apparently I am not eligible to get a discount there lol. Customer service went right out the proverbial window.

I wanted to look at there blue label glocks and they asked to see my military id, I complyed politely and they told me my id was the wrong color LOL Idk what that was about cause I have bought my blue label glock 27 straight from the factory this year and had no issues. Not sure if they didn't like me or what. I called glock to complain cause I was pretty pissed and felt kind of embarrassed that they singled me out like I'm below them, according to glock in smyrna, ga they are not an authorized glock le dealer which was interesting so I guess they must buy their own blue labels and remarket them to the locals. I'd go to a pawn shop and get less additude, won't be going back to that place even again.

I like outpost armory which is south of Nashville but kinda a hike for me they were rly nice very informative and I enjoyed their service. Wish there were closer options

I will ad it was nice to get the s&w rebate for their m&p pistols wish they would bring the 40% off deal they had back.

Thanks guys and any other info feel free,

Are there any gun clubs around the area?

Welcome, I saw a new store the other day down on Ashland city road 41A bypass. Didn't stop in, had the fam with me - looked small but who knows.

I've stopped in this store. Its run by an elderly couple, he sells guns, she sells hand made quilts and nicknacks for the home. Not much selection, prices about like everyone elses. I don't know from personal experience, but I'm told that if you price check others, this old guy will order what you want under the best price you can find in town. My bro-in-law has purchased from him in the past.

The only LEbdealer in TN is in Knoxville. Every one else buys from them. As Glocks go, not sure why a retired ID wouldn't work but the guys at TN Gun Country are good people and I don't believe they would have denied the ID without a reason. Do you have a TN DL or HCP? I know active military need orders if they don't have any state ID.

TN Gun Country: Originally felt they were rude and could care less if I was a customer. Fast forward to today, they are very polite and personable. 10% mil discount, they will order anything you need and charge 10% over cost for it. Ammo prices with the discount is the best I have found and even beats some good online retailers, the px, and wal-mart.

Allen's: Last time I was there the mil discount was 5%. I was a faithful customer (3 years, many firearms) there until one day I asked what they would do for me on a rifle that was priced near MSRP. I was looked at as if I just said something bad about his mother. I only go there if It's an absolute emergency now.

Big Iron Munitions: The Tiny Town store. Not much inventory on hand but they will order anything you need. Never really got to the prices so I can't help there.

Clarksville Guns and Archery: Priced high when compared to Gun Country the last time I was there. Good people but a little pricey for me and It doesn't help it's on the other side of town.

Grandpas: Won't go back. Last I heard it was posted with a gun buster (Didn't personally verify) and have not really been impressed with their service.

The following are all Oak Grove Ky stores. I know it doesn't help with pistols but I believe your still able to buy long guns in an adjoining state. For parts and accessories it seems they always have something.

Quantico Tactical: It's actually in Oak Grove (Outside gate 4 of Campbell) but they carry some AR parts that are hard to find and occasionally have really good sales. Prices after the team member discount on some items have beat online retailers on more than one occasion.

ATS Tactical: AR accessories and parts, priced slightly high but if your in a pinch they will do.

KY Gun and Knife Country: Lots of odds and ends here, almost like a thrift store. Prices are reasonable and they carry quite a few holsters. If you don't like dogs then this isn't the place to go as they have 1 or 2 roaming the back of the counter.

Welcome to town and good luck finding

Wal-Mart (TN/KY): They just flat out cant be beat on some stuff. Hoppes #9 cost half of what it does anywhere else nearby and all of the Clarksville and the Oak Grove stores carry AR's.

Anywhere else: It seems like there are some good stores in the surrounding area heading towards Nashville but I honestly haven't had them beat TN Gun Country's pricing (I'm not an employee, just happens to have the best prices on stuff I'm buying). Guns N Leather in Goodletsville (SP) has a great holster selection and I have found Crossbreed holsters at D&T Arms (TGO Vender) and great prices on AR lowers.

Good luck with your search and if you ever want to go shoot with local TGO'ers Greycrait and I head up to LBL at least once a week, normally Thursday mornings. PM Me if your interested or have any questions about the area or the stores.

Hey fist good to hear your experience in the

Area, to answer your question I have a state issued TN id, my military id is legit and I frequently go shoot on base at the pov range good place. My experience at TN gun country was sub par I went in I wanted to get a glock in 45acp, seen they had military/le sales, went in politely asked to look at them and if they would tell me the price.

They asked to see my military Id first I showed them and they said my Id was the wrong color I knew that was bull#### cause a week or two before I got one at outpost armory they have limited supply of blue labels.

They told me I wasn't eligible for a military discount in there store at all either I have spent a few hundred $ in there on ammo in the past so don't know why they would push away buisness.

Clarksville guns and archery has good prices on ammo during sales and the s&w line they carry is fairly priced I went there for the m&p 45c after TN gun country fell through on the glock.

Will say wish I was a resident of oakgrove just for the better deals on guns no other reason would I ever want to live there.

Last time I went into Allen's I stood at the counter for 20 min and nobody helped me so I just left haven't been back since.

Where do you shoot?

Ammo is hit or miss love Quantico they have the best deals when in stock

I guess either u get a used gun or one online seems to be the best way in my experience although each has its downside

I go up to LBL at the Gold pond shooting range. It's a free use range with a good setup. Rifle goes up to 175yds roughly and pistol to 50yds. Each section has a covered shooting area with 5 or 6 tables with a built in swivel seat. The only kicker is you need your own target stand so I built a few till I found what I liked. I set up on the rifle portion and shoot both rifle and pistol, never had a need to walk down to the pistol portion. There's no RSO but I have yet to run into anyone who was a turd, but I'm try and go early in the morning. I'm near exit 1 and take 24 up to exit 65, takes about 40-45 minutes to get there but I really like the big boy rules and have met some good folks. PM me if you have any interest in going with me and my elderly shooting buddy greycrait :) We head out around 0800 and get back around 1300-1400. Normally shoot .22 rifles and a variety of hand guns, sometimes I'll drag my AR out. We just started including practical pistol drills to try and get more out of the ammo and our carry guns and get away from the norm. Nothing wild, just adding snap caps to simulate malfunctions and shaped/colored targets that the non shooter calls out. Just let me know if you want to go, I normally drive and you don't need to throw in for gas since I would go any how.

Also, do you remember what the guys name was at Gun Country? I would have put money on it that a retiree ID was good since almost all the guys there are retired military.

Grandpa's has taken down the gunbuster/no concealed weapons signs. They still have the worse knowlegable and rude employees in town.

Not sure on the guys name but he had glasses, there was two people working there I had got the military discount the time I was there before buying ammo and some misc. Stuff.

Some one gentleman there told me I couldn't buy the military/le pistol with his bogus excuse, so I said fine to myself and was gonna buy ammo instead, the other guy told me I'm not getting the military discount either. Then I gave them additude and told them ill take my business elsewhere.

I went 5 min away to another store and found a competitive deal on ammo and the handgun, it wasn't the point its the principal that they shouldnt offer a discount that they can say who gets it and who doesn't.

I found clarksville guns and archery to be a lot mor people friendly they sent me a thankyou card in mail for buying the m&p which was a nice touch never had a shop do that for me before. They even showed me a few places to find some things cheaper than their own store, I appreciate a shop that is honest and isn't gonna lie to you to get the last 100$ in your pocket.

I ended up getting a 50$ rebate in the mail from smith & wess so in the end that offset the tax

I got the s&w m&p 45c for a little under 600$ including tax, ffl fee and and background check fee.

When I thought of it I saved an extra 60$ from the tips they gave me, that was decent not saying the store doesn't overcharge on some things there if you shop around you can get the best reasonable deal

next time I'm in the market for a blue label, I told myself I wouldn't go back to TN gun country ever again of course being mad about one rude employee shouldnt make the whole store a bad place.

I as the customer can't tell who the owner is and thus the importance in buisness to have Gd employees.

Like I said i gave additude back at the point where I was getting plenty of it. I heard some mixed feelings on the store through their perspective reviews I read prior to checking the place out.

I'm an open minded person and maybe ill stop by in the near future give it another chance ask for Dave the owner I'm sure the owner wasn't there when the situation went down, the time I went to the place before the employees were more pleasant and I got the discount.

I do a good bit of business with QTS in oak grove great people. TN gun country for me has been hit or miss, seems like a lot of the times i go in there the guys just aren't super friendly but they have never been rude, all around decent shop. The drive to Greenbrier to go to G&L is more than worth it; honestly one of the best gun stores i have ever been to hands down. For ammo and parts check out mid south shooters website. There an online retailer, however their warehouse/business center is located in Clarksville. As far as places to shoot. Locally you have Montgomery County Shooting Complex, they have a really nice out door complex. The shell shop in hopkinsville in door range. G&L in greenbrier indoor range. Also not sure hoe much time you have in your retirement, but MCSC is almost always looking for volunteers to SO the ranges on the weekends. Welcome to Clarksville and to TN, but more importantly welcome to TGO. This place is full of very knowledgeable friendly people and more than it's fair share of good deals on guns and gear

Yeh, Dave's right. The owner is a nice fellow, but they have had a snob or two in the past. I haven't been

in there in a while, though. I'm allergic to the traffic on that side of town. Madison Street is bad enough for me. :D

41A is horrible at lunch and COB. I only drive it if I have too.

I know exactly who you were referring to after you said glasses. He comes off as an ass but is a good guy after you realize that's just him and it's not personal. The other guy was more than likely one of two that only works on occasional weekends to help out. However the guy with the glasses is the store manager, I'm still surprised he said no to your ID.

Like Dave S and 6.8 said, the owner Dave is a great guy and will take care of you or at the very least explain the situation with the ID.

I too got the thank you card from Clarksville Guns and Archery and that was for a Pink Cricket .22! It surprised the heck out of me. The last time that I was there I was going to trade a pistol and even considering the fact they need to make money off it's resale I was a little insulted at what they offered. They will work with you on their prices and seem fair on a trade most of the time.

Howdy and Welcome to Clarksville and TGO

I like Tennessee Gun Country best. Knife and Gun Country in Oak Grove are nice folks also. The Kentucky Shell Shop in Hopkinsville is where I shoot indoors, more good folks. Done some business with Allens Gun Shop and have nothing bad to say about them.

Guns and Leather in Greenbrier is also a good store with a indoor range. :pleased:
