If you have a carry permit can you legally carry a loaded Long Gun in your Vehicle such as a Rifle or Shotgun? I know it is called a concealed carry permit and a Handgun carry permit but I was just curious since our saftey guy didnt mention it.

Yep...a Handgun Carry Permit is good for Handguns only.

39-17-1351(n)(1) says "Except as provided in subdivision (n)(2), a permit issued pursuant to this section shall be good for four (4) years and shall entitle the permit holder to carry any handgun or handguns that the permit holder legally owns or possesses. The permit holder shall have the permit in the holder's immediate possession at all times when carrying a handgun and shall display the permit on demand of a law enforcement officer."

39-17-1307 prohibits the carry of ANY firearm (among other weapons)

39-17-1308 gives a list of defense to 39-17-1307.

One part says it is ok if the firearm is unloaded, another if you have a HCP, another if you on your property and some others.

To tell the truth that is the reason I was asking lol. We spotlight rabbits out of our nursery and drive along the road alot to get to different places.

Yea if anybody every tried to carjack you they would probably sh*t theirselves when you pulled that out. I think Ill stick to a good old .45 though. Its a little easier to fit under the seat.

only defense for this is in 39-17-1308

" By a person possessing a rifle or shotgun while engaged in the lawful protection of livestock from predatory animals"

So you need to own a farm and be en route to or from I'd say.

Sure you can. But only if you are seperated from your wife, and are without keys and/or cell phone.

They wont let you carry a loaded rifle or shotgun in your vehicle but any pistol is ok. Im gonna buy a full auto pistol for concealed carry.

Yea it would be nice but dont really have 10000 dollars or whatever ridiculous price it costs to own one.

ive always heard to NEVER use a NFA/Class 3 weapon for self-defense. you then have to convince a jury that you NEEDED a full auto machine gun to protect yourself when others have used a single-action .22 pistol to do the same.

Yea good point lol. I would look pretty bad when the guy had 30 holes in him. The jury Might think I got a little carried away
