Savage Model 64 22lr magazine feed problems

Hi folks-

I've got a Savage 64 .22lr that I bought for my son for Christmas last year, that I'm having some issues with.

Regardless of brand of ammo I fire through it, I randomly have jams caused my a magazine misfeed. Sometimes it feeds great, other times I'll have a misfeed and jam every other round.

I've read here and there that this seems to be an issue with a lot of the mags that Savage uses/manufactures for this model rifle- does anyone here know any more about it, and how I might modify the magazine to improve the matter? I think some guys are sanding or honing down parts of the top of the magazine, but I cant seem to get any more clear info than that.

I've not called Savage to discuss the issue with them yet, thinking that if there's a quick fix, I'll be happy anyway.

It's a great little rifle thats fun for my son to shoot, but it gets frustrating for both of us when I have to clear out the firing chamber every few rounds.

Thanks!
