Out of touch rich guy. $250k middle class. Doesn't care about half of the country. Pawlenty leaving to lobby for deep pockets.... and possibly under a Romney administration.

He's really looking good to us po' folk, isn't he.

Plus he banks about 13 or 14 million a year!

If anyone has envy of someone that makes millions a year, they are envious of their neighbors also. Class warfare is what is dividing our nation. I don't have much but I don't envy anyone that's done well for themselves. More power to them.

So, I'm envious because I don't want a rich guy taking care of other rich guys?

What does it say about me when I say the same about the poor?

Maybe, just MAYBE, i want someone to look out for the interests of us middle class "poverty stricken sub-250k" folks instead of pandering and lining the pockets of the rich and poor.

Not trying to derail this thread, just following up with some updated info about a story out there that is mis-leading...

------------------

Received from Gary Bauer a few minutes ago re: the Chick-Fil-A caving story -

Did Chick-fil-A Cave?

The media has been gleefully reporting that Chick-fil-A caved in to pressure from left-wing politicians and homosexual rights groups and will no longer make donations to "anti-gay" groups like Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage. This is a perfect example of how the left distorts the news.

Chick-fil-A has never donated to the National Organization for Marriage. It has supported pro-marriage efforts through its own foundation. In a statement yesterday, the company reiterated its commitment to "programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages." You can read this Citizenlink report for more information.

Chick-fil-A Sets the Record Straight

http://www.citizenlink.com/2012/09/20/chick-fil-a-sets-the-record-straight-2/

In response to media reports that Chick-fil-A has agreed to stop making charitable donations to groups like Focus on the Family, the company today released a statement to set the record straight.

Contrary to reports first made by the gay-activist group The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) on Tuesday and later picked up by mainstream media outlets, Chick-fil-A and its charitable-giving arm, the WinShape Foundation, did not agree to stop making donations to groups that support the biblical definition of marriage in exchange for being allowed to open a franchise in Chicago.

How about maybe, just maybe we get one that will look out for us little guys, eh? How about someone who will

look out for the Constitution and leave all this class trash in Europe, where it belongs? :D

Dream on! Little guys, you meant "rich guys"! He cares about his wallet, and his rich buddies, nothing else!

Sorry, I didn't see your post until after I posted above!

Well he donated 33% of his earned income last year to charity, which is more than I can say. I'm not going to hate a man because he makes more money than me, nor am I going to judge every business decision that resulted in screwing someone over. In the business world it happens; a lot. Business is not charity, nor does it need to be. This is why places like California and Michigan are bankrupt.

I just have a hard time believing that it isn't envy when folks bring up how much he earns. I don't think it matters at all. Every politician with a seat in DC is wealthy and out of touch with the middle class. How silly to focus in Romney as if this is something new; it isn't.

......Every politician with a seat in DC is wealthy and out of touch with the middle class. ...

And most of them got that way AFTER they got there, by having inside info about "investment opportunities" and other sweetheart deals which are actually thinly disguised graft. Not to mention plain ole garden variety blatant graft also in some cases.

Mitt made $13mil last year on money he's already made -- hell, that's 32 times the president's salary -- he doesn't need to make another original buck in his life, so at least that motivation is not even on his radar.

In some ways, the super rich can afford to be more honest than the majority of the rank and file. :)

Charity, yes, he donated money to charity! "Hello", "Tax write off"! Does any one think he just gave it away! "He didn't sign that donation anonymous"!

Why would any one, want to put some one in office, who has screwed people over, and put them into the unemployment line! I have no envy because Romney is rich! I dislike the fact that he got his money being a lieing, cheating, deceitful person!

Considering he gave more in taxes and charity then he would had he paid nothing to charity at all, I don't see how that equation works.

Furthermore, I and plenty of other people here have put folks in the unemployment line. So what? I wasn't aware that business had a responsibility to bankrupt themselves rather than shuck overhead. Maybe if some companies followed that model they wouldn't be going to the government for a handout.

Any business man has fired/laid off people before. The higher you go up, the higher that number gets. That number will go higher still as our government cripples business and tries to make things "fair".

This is, like I assumed, all about envy. God forbid I ever run for office and have a nicer car, bigger house or hotter wife. Clearly it's because I'm an ahole.

Communist, socialist, and liberal democrats don't believe in personal success, because you didn't build that business or you didn't make A's in school or you can't be All-American in sports because you didn't score all those touchdowns or hit all those home runs or score 50 points in a basketball game by yourself. Your personal achievement was not done by you, and you didn't earn that money. Competition and success is something that's going by the wayside in this country, and that is why we're crumbling as a nation. When there is no motivation to succeed and reap the fruits of one's hard labor and ingenuity, then we become dregs of society, and our country becomes a third world nation. Liberal democrats were the ones in P.E class that cried foul about getting hit in dodgeball games, and they still cry foul today because other people are succeeding and reaping the fruits of their hard work, and that's just not fair.

Serious question now: do you know how tax deductions work? You know that he isn't getting that money back, right?

According to FACT, which would be the undeniable fact of his tax return, He made 13 1/2 million last year, mostly on investments. Although he donated 4 million of that to charity, he only claimed 2.25 million of those donations on his tax return, because claiming the full amount would have lowered his taxable income to the point that he would be paying less than 14% on his overall income. Since he didn't want to screw the government out of their money, he decided not to claim the remaining $1.75 million, which meant that he paid even more taxes than he had to... approx 2 million.

So, in summary, Romney made about 13 1/2 million last year, paid the government $2 million and charity $4 milllion. That is almost 50% of his income. Whether it goes to the government or charity, he still didn't keep it, so I ask again, what is the problem other than your own envy?

Perhaps your problem is that you feel as if charity shouldn't be tax deductible, and that he still should have paid the government around 4 million rather than the 2 million he paid in. Okay. I'll buy that logic. But if that is your logic then your problem resides in the tax code, which we should all be able to agree needs to be fixed. Last time I checked Romney wasn't running the IRS, so your hate is misplaced.

Or maybe you just think that $7 million in take home is still too much for someone that earned $13 million. If you think that, then you have finally had an honest moment with yourself and should be able to see that your problem is your envy of those that make more than you. If that is how you see the world and cast your vote, then you have deep personal problems that only you can solve; not the President, not your employer, not your educational institution... just you.

EDIT: I donated about 1% of my income last year. Granted, I have two children and a wife to support, along with a mortgage, umpteen different insurance policies, student loans and home renovations, but if I made twice the income chances are I still wouldn't have donated more than 1%, as I'm sure I would have found other places to put that money. I'm ready to admit that Romney is a better man than I if he is so willing to donate almost $2 million and not even claim it on his return. But then again, money doesn't motivate me to dislike people; I prefer the content of their character. There are plenty of people that don't make squat that wouldn't make their way on the spectrum of decent human beings.

Romney could have paid 70% of his taxes to the IRS and the liberal democrats would still not be happy. They will not be content until they finally confiscate all personal wealth from everyone, and we live equally as slaves in their utopia.

So people shouldn't give money to charity, correct...I suppose then you are just fine with the government taking money from people under threat of prison so the government can decide who is "good enough" to get help???

Why would any one, want to put some one in office, who has screwed people over, and put them into the unemployment line! I have no envy because Romney is rich! I dislike the fact that he got his money being a lieing, cheating, deceitful person!

Really? You know all that horses**t for a fact do you? You've got evidence to support your maligning a man you don't know?

This stuff sounds like something I spread in my garden.

It always amazes me how much people worry about other people's paychecks. When someone achieves,

it usually is reflected by an increase in wealth. If the same people would quit worrying so much about this,

they might make more of their own.

Just venting. I've known for a long time why people do this and why it will never change. When you fall for

the game of envy, you make it easier for the other player to distract you further. Just like playing classes

against each other.

The main difference between Obama and Romney is that Romney knows how to make a buck and Obama

understands how to steal one. He's been stealing them from everyone. He's nothing more than the union

thug community organizer, and he's proud of it.

If you don't like Romney, at least try to acknowledge that difference.

I'd rather have someone in the White House who knows how to make a buck any day of the week.

70%? Hell, if he had paid 110% it wouldn't be enough for the Obamanuts and in fact, they would simply turn around and point and say how stupid he is for paying 110%.

And I'm beginning to think that some folks on this board would be pointing fingers and saying the same thing as well!

Yep, definitely no understanding of charitable giving, combined with big dose of sour grapes.

For every buck you give away to a qualifying org, you avoid .10 to .35 in taxes, depending on bracket and type of income.

But you're still losing .65 to .90 cents of that dollar that you could have tucked away or spent.

There was a time when the big rich could actually overall save money by giving x amount of it away, hence lowering tax rate on the rest, but the tax codes have long since been tweaked to negate that.

So yes, whether you make $13K or $13million, charitable deductions are definitely given away. Should you choose to pay the federal taxes on them also, you're free to do so. But then you'd be not only generous, but stupid, too.
