They are great. We use one on our canoes and they can really take some abuse.

The only con is the sound is horrible when in the waterproof case, but you really can't expect any different.

Fantastic little devices, some people like the Contour a little better, but the GoPro in its case is near bulletproof. We mounted mine on a dirt track late model and it wrecked twice pretty hard and the thing never even budged. When it was mounted on the motorcycle, the sound levels were really low, except when it was vibrating at a certain speed then you got a terribly loud noise.

What are you going to be using it for? If you're looking for the highest quality and it's not going to get banged around too much, I'd also consider that Contour instead. For ruggedness, without question go with a GoPro

I looked at this and was considering buying one but I got a deal on swann freestyle. It is pretty good, almost the same. It also comes with the water proof case etc..

For horseback riding.. on the trails..I also started doing some horseshows. For me it would be a tool to better myself and the horse.. if I see myself and critique it..I can see what I need to work on

I think Dolomite said he would also use it to make some sort of gun short movies or something gun related..We have a few regular cameras but I watched someones movie that was taken with a GoPro and the quality was remarkable..

I don't know about the mic on the go pro, but the mic on mine isn't worth 2 cent.

I am happy with the video and I brought mine to use as a dashcam. Only used it a couple times, mainly forget to take it with me.

I looked them up again and they have changed massively since I got mine years ago. Mine was a non-hd gopro, that's why the contours looked so much better, but that new hd hero looks darn good! Found this: http://www.eyeofmine.com/gopro/hd/prof/index.html about halfway down they compare the gopro to a $4000+ camera (obviously the real camera does many more things, but just for basic shooting that gopro gives it a run for the money)

I have used them extensively along with just about every small camera out there to record motorsport events. The GoPro HDs are awesome little cameras. My biggest gripe about them is the wide angle lens. Durability wise they are tough as nails. I've seen them come off of motorcycles at well over 100MPH and survive, I've also seen a number of them make it through a motorcycle crash. It is common in these scenarios to break the case which is rather inexpensive but I have yet to see one of the cameras get destroyed. That said I really do like the contour cameras. I think that they give a more honest perspective than the GoPros since they have a standard lens. If I was going to use it to film people I would lean towards to Contour. To give someone a perspective from horseback I would go with the GoPro.

I got a GoPro Hero2 Outdoor Edition a few weeks ago. I have only used it once, but I was very impressed. I mounted it low on the bow of my boat and hauled down the river. It is very durable, records excellent video, and comes with sturdy mounting hardware. I agree with the above that the sound quality is not spectacular. From my limited experience with it, I highly recommend.

I have mounted mine on all kinds of things and am always impressed by the clarity of picture.

My only complaint is that it is a bit heavy/bulky when mounting to a helmet/hat.

For those of you who use one shooting do you use a hat or chest mount or something else?

I have a HD Hero 2 and I mainly use it to record motorsports, but I have used it to record while shooting. I used the forehead mount and it came out nicely. If you are using a long gun, you could mount it directly to it if you can figure out a mounting system. You can also hook up an external mic for better quality.

Yes, the Go pro camera is one of my faves.

I have the 1080 hd original hero and it works great out on the trails. I ride mostly atvs but there is a chest harness you can get for the go pro instead of worrying abouta helmet. (i wear a helmet though). Iasked for one for christmas one yearand before christmas i found a smoking deal on www.woot.com for one for about $125. Couldn't pass it up then. Has been a great camera since.
