The one I am looking at is around $800 new, 5.56, 1:9 twist chrome lined, M4 feedreamps, no rear sight. How does this compare to say the M&P sport? I know the sport comes with a rear sight.

I believe the sport comes with a 1/8 twist barrel, so good for light or heavy bullets. With the 9 twist you probably would want to stick with lighter bullets. The upper on those have the forward assist/dust cover, vs smooth side on the sport. The sport also has melonite treated barrel vs chrome lined. Rifling is probably different as well. None of which is bad, I would just make sure the bolt carrier group that comes with it is properly treated and tested (shot peened, heat treated, properly staked gas key, MPI tested).

With 9 twist you can shoot anything up to 77 grains out to probably 250-300 yards. I shoot 69 SMK's in my 9 twist guns very accurately.

Other than the forward assist and port cover, which is a non issue, the Sport has better parts. The Sport's bolt is properly treated.

IMHO, the Sport will serve you just as well and probably better. The melonite is better than chrome lined and doesn't affect accuracy like chrome sometimes can.

Thanks. Thats kinda what I was thinking, but the only reason I was even considering the DSA over the sport is I was going to trade for it so I would have about $600 in it.

This is what a staked gas key looks like. The other things you just have to find out what manufacturer made the BCG and see if they mention it on their website or possibly give them a call.

The DSA does not use a F marked front sight post and most of them are not chrome lined. Most of the DSA ZM4s with the 1/9 bbl are a non chrome lined, parked chromoly bbl. I used to have one and while they are OK, the Smith is a much higher quality product.
