waterproof pouch

Recommended Posts

i thought i'd tap into the collective knowledge here:

i'm looking for a small bag or pouch to take into the water at the lake. i'd want it to be able to hold keys, wallet, cellphone, and P3AT.

for example- http://www.amazon.com/Overboard-1050B-Over-Board-Pro-Sport-Belt/dp/B005HB9JP4

this one would probably work, but i have an irrational dread of anything that resembles a fanny pack. i had imagined a small bag that i could alternately hold in my hand, tie to my wrist with a lanyard and allow to float, and stuff in my bathingsuit pocket if i needed two free hands. interior padding would be great because i plan to jump into the water with it from modestly high cliffs and bridges.

if anyone has suggestions i'd love to hear them.

p.s. i'm thinking that it would be safe to jump 30-40 ft into water with a magazine of 380 acp rounds. that is, i don't think the shock could somehow set off the primers. if any wiser heads want to weigh in that would be great too.

Gander Mountain and most big name sportinggoods stores should have what you're looking for. If not, you could always look into ordering online for something more specific. otterbox and Pelican both make sturdy, waterproof storageboxes. But you mentioned a waterproof bag or pouch. You might be better to check the kayak department or a speciality boating store. There are compression sacks that we use for our kayaking trips ( i keep one stocked in my atv for stuff i want to keep airtight till i need to use it). These are the ones that are foldable and waterproof pouches which have a D-ring on the clasp area.

Always have best luck at www.rei.com

What they said.... surf the water sports rack at your local sporting goods/outfitter place. I would look for something that will float with all your stuff inside.

I don't think there's any danger cliff diving, etc. with the gun as long as it's in some sort of holster that covers the trigger. If you hit something hard enough to cause problems with the gun, you've likely got bigger problems. Keep in mind that if the gun is crammed in a pouch with a bunch of other stuff, you won't be able to access it in a hurry.

When I am kayaking, canoeing, or just in a creek I keep my phone and ID in a small waterproof box I got at walmart. I keep my gun on my side and keys in pocket. I figure the water won't hurt the keys and the gun better work when wet. They did sell larger boxes there, but I didn't want everything in a box.

I have a couple of waterproof cigarette cases I got thru my work that are dirt cheat. I have seen them in stores for $1-2 each. They even have a lanyard and they hold a blackberry or iPhone easily.
