I have a friend that puts a stack of quarters $10.00 worth on the table. Tells the waitress that is her tip. If his glass gets empty, or if he has any problem he takes a quarter away, at the end of dinner she gets what is left????????????????????????

That is AWESOME!!! LOL lotta quarters to carry round though...

But Sonic gals are waitresses they are carhops. They are not paid a tip wage (less than minimum wage) they are paid like other employees at the place.

I of course tip all those that are considered tipped employees and make less than minimum wage.

I do tip the pizza dude, but that's an exception to the drink rule. Anyone that will drive to my house and bring me something so my fat ass doesn't have to put a pair of shoes on is going to get a little something extra. I normally tip delivery guys better than anyone else.

Now, Subway and Starbucks, I just don't get that. As if a $6 cup of coffee or $8 sandwich isn;t bad enough. I never understood their tip jars.

I do not tip at those places.

As a general rule, I don't tip at those places unless I get particularly good service. For example, I eat at the Blue Coast Burrito here a lot, and they know me well enough to spot me out in he parking lot and get my fish tacos going, so I usually slip them a buck in the jar.

The average server makes very good money, considering the education/training/skills they possess (or need to for the job).

As a rule, I will not pay a server more for their time than I make when I'm at work. Therefore, if I made $10/hr, and a server had 10 tables in an hour, each giving $1 tip, they'd make the same as I did...and more, considering their $2.13/hr.

I've got 20 years welding experience, doing top level work...and I will not ever agree that a server should make as much as I do.

I'm not saying I'm a grouch and don't appreciate anything...but there's no reason servers should make $20/hr and pay taxes on half or less of it.

I guess I am a grouch in a way, because I get really tired of hearing servers complain about how much money they make and how much people should tip. They know the wages, and are obviously ok with making them or they'd quit the job. They make MUCH more than other professions that require the same level of education/training/skill.

Yes,they make great money.I went out with a server from a buffet for a couple of weeks. She worked part time, and went to school part time to become a nurse(not a nurses aid,but a nurse) She drove a newer model Lexus SUV while going to school.Once she started working full time at the hospital she had to down size to an Eclipse.Since then shes gone back to work as a server pouring people tea.And of course shes now once again driving a Lexus(a GS I believe)

Now Waffle House girls are a different story.I dont think they make enough to buy a buss pass. The last time a visited a WH I was the only customer and the only car in the parking lot, which means the two servers and a cook were booting it to work
