What is the difference in the two, and what guns fire these rounds(from the factory - I'm aware I can modify my 10/22 to do the job)?

Actually 17 HMR is not an easy conversion on a standard .22LR 10/22. You need a 10/22 in .22 Magnum do do the .17 HMR change over and those are not as common. There are differences in the Reciever and bolt. The 17 HM2 is a pretty straight forward change over. Some get away with just a barrel change but others have to do more with the internals (springs and such).

HMR>HM2>22mag>22LR

Correct...These are more geared for bolt action shooting.

But you can convert the Barrel and the bolt of a

Ruger

10/22LR

to fire HM2.

Same Process but you would need to find a 10/22Mag Rifle

Than Swap Barrels, bold.

ect

Need any more help.

I'll be glad to do it.

They really show their stuff in a good bolt action rifle. CZ makes some very good rifles for these rounds but they may not be the best rounds for everyone. I had one of each but went back to the 22lr and 22WMR.

The conversion of the 10/22 can be iffy sometimes and cause the rifle to start to extract too soon if not converted properly.
