I would like to add a quick detach scope to by M&P15 Sport. I have it sighted in at 100 yds with iron sights. At age 65 my eyes need some help at this range. I would like to add a quick detach base and a fixed power scope (maybe 4x) to the receiver rail and keep iron flip up rear sight. Those that have such a setup, what do you recommend? Also my income is fixed and I need to hold down on expenses.

thanks

I did exactly that. With a Sport. And cheap. And I'm 64. Except for those, no similarity. :)

Barska 3-9x40, 1" barrel, $20 afterthought on a Sportsman's Guide order. Has held up amazingly well, put one on a Mini also, so far so good. Only thing was that the tiny screws holding the elevation/windage turret plates wanted to back out. Locktite seems to have fixed that. Dang thing even holds zero quite well with multiple on/off the rifle.

Mounts are UTG Quick Detach/Lock Hi Rings RQ2W1204. $20 at gunshow. On or off in seconds. The snap locks are adjustable for tension.

Looks like scope is touching the Magpul, but not quite, paper thin gap there, but that's as far forward it can go without touching, just happens to be right for eye relief. Actually, guess you could go forward a bit more and let it physically touch the fold down sight, there's still some downward give on the Magpul hinge, I just didn't need to quite do it. Worked out perfectly with slots, uses first totally free one and last one, depending on scope this might be limiting but will probably do fine with most.

And no, before anyone asks, you don't see the front sight post in scope at all, not a shadow or a blur at all, nada. Nice perk where focus, depth of field, and light gathering phenomena work in your favor.

40 clams total investment scope and rings. Added a bipod to front with a short rail I found on eBay that would fit existing holes in the stock forend and Dol's trigger kit, and that's it, as high tech as this one is going.

I order a Leapers UTG Hi profile QD rings today from Midway. I'll also add a 6X-32 compact scope.

Thanks OhShoot for the information.
