Call GnL. Do it there. Easy as pie and a good price.

+1 on Guns and Leather. Took mine there several years ago and they were great. It's the only place I'll send my wife when she's ready.

The outfit is actually here in Murfreesboro. Still no money refunded yet since last Tuesday. Will give him a bit longer and then will take action.

This thing was really billed as a state certified HCP course, and not just a safety course of some kind? I mean, you watched the state produced video, took a written multiple choice test, shot 48 rounds at three or more distances and so forth? There were other people in the class? How much was it?

I mean, this whole thing is beginning to sound like total prosecutable fraud, and the state might be very interested?

about 15 people in the class, video watched (state produced as far as I know), written course taken, shooting took place also 3yrd, 7yrds and 15 yrds if I remember correctly. It was a HCP course but the guy ended up not having his license if I understand correctly, or just applied for one but had some "trouble" with the previous HCP company he was with and was under the microscope by the state. This is what I understand so far. Cost was $90

I agree.

@Newman, I would demand refund immediately. If not, I would contact the state. They might continue to rip off others.

Hmmm, sounds like they just didn't have their ducks in row yet and should have waited before offering class. At the very least it is a poorly run business, at the worst a scam. I would definately ask for the $90 or a legit certificate (no more waiting). It's been 5 years since I did mine, but $90 seems high.

$90 is actually not out of line. GnL is $65, as are a few others. $75-$90 is a pretty normal range. There are a few in the $125-$150 range. For the classes with higher prices, I would expect smaller class sizes and more one-on-one instruction.

You're letting them off pretty easy, my time is worth a lot more than the class fee... I'd show up and demand a legit certificate or a reasonable compensation for my lost time they wasted, taking their unlicensed class.

And frankly the OP should be posting this companies name everywhere so we can all avoid such a poorly managed company.

Well, I can understand trying to get his 90 clams back before blowing the whistle by using exact name.

Let him get his $ back, then please report it to the State, and then here. It would save someone else issues.

Yeah, I got a little diploma paper thing with a carbon copy beneath it at the time of completion.

I haven't made it to page two yet, but I assume you got took for a ride and your course wasn't the state required course as it was advertised to be?

<And now I am caught up,>

Yeah, I gotcha. I took my class through a reputable (in not well thought of) shop in Knoxville. Cost me $90, about 15 of us in the class.

Not trying to be mean, just trying to play the Devil's Advocate here, but did you do any research on them before you signed up? To be honest, I would consider the money gone, and I would be calling anyone at the THP that would listen to me.

I did do research and he had a valid business card, website, etc. Now, no website, nothing. This guy actually drives a full size white suv decaled with his business logos and phone numbers in Murfreesboro. Makes me sick to even think about this crap any more.

Come to find out this guys was not certified to provide the class in the beginning and led everyone on that he was and that it took time to get the results of the test.

5 weeks after I took the class, still no certification or refund.

This outfit is BAD News!!

I taught TN HCP classes for 3 years.

TDOS will have a field day with him if he taught a HCP class without being certified.

I've dealt with both and they seemed like decent folks.

I got the yellow slip from the instructor the same day as the course. Once I submitted it I waited two weeks and a day and got the permit in the mail.

My wife and I retook the class this past weekend with Instructor Tim Guy and both recieved our completion certificate the same day. So pleased!!! Got fingerprinted today. Now the wait but I so pleased. Tim Guy is the best in my book!!! Hands down!

Glad you had a good experience with a legitimate instructor. Hope you push law enforcement to punish this fraud. Please keep us updated on that situation, and good luck on a fast turn time on your applications.
