I've got a Colt AR [6700] that I'm trying to get the flash suppressor off of. I've never been a hammer mechanic so I'm not putting a lot of twist on it. I've got a barrel wrench that I'm using and a 3/4" open end that I'm using on the flash hider. Is there something that I don't know or is this one of those cases of muscle over mind?

Put some good penetrating oil on it like Kroil and let it sit overnight. Should come right off after that.

OP, what is the barrel length without the suppressor? If it's less then 16", it's pinned on. I'll be in Tellico Plains probably Wednesday if you need any assistance.

Do they braze/solder flash hiders on AR's?

Penetrating oil soak followed by heating with a torch. In the excitement of it breaking loose, don't try to spin it off with your hand...

Yeh, but usually only to make the length requirement without getting a stamp.

Snug that thing up in your block and give it a good hard pull. They can be a biotch, but they

will come off. Just needs to break loose. If you want to you can add some leverage to the wrench by

adding some length to it with a pipe or something similar.

Place the barrel in a sturdy vise, flash hider towards you, heat it up and/or or use a good

penetrating oil and twist as hard as you need to, to the left, that's counter clockwise, facing

the flash hider. It will come off! Don't confuse me while I type.

Get a 12ft cheater bar. It'll come off or twist the barrel off, one of the two.
