I'm kinda partial to Cuervo. After all it is my last name in Spanish. Actually, I'm more of a gin fan.

So Old Cuervo. Have you tried Bombay Sapphire?

I love TeeKillYa. Since I lived in both Northern Mexico (California) and East Mexico (Texas) I can't drink Tequila straight unless it's 100 percent Weber Blue Agave. I've tried Milagro, Patron, Corazon, Cabo Wabo (Yuchha), Herradura and Corallejo. Almost all have been the Reposado or "rested" for one year type. I've tried the Patron Anejo and it is my favorite because it is SOOO smooth. Unfotunately it's a bit more expensive so I only get it once or twice a year for special occasions.

I can't drink tequila because I don't like the idea of drinking something distilled from sweaty gym socks.
;)

WHAT?? I always thought is was distilled from worm excrement!

I have an unusual recommendation. Burnett's has a line of flavored vodkas that are super cheap ($7-8 for a fifth) and go great as mixers with cranberry juice, o.j., tonic, etc.

They are not my ideal "unwind" selection, but can be handy if you want to quell a mixed crowd. I am a couple years out of a female-dominated graduate program, so I learned to please a crowd on a budget.

Plus, that way they keep their hands of your/my bourbon.

Burnetts is the standard vodka usedin the Dewtini

Liquor does not come in fifths any longer. it is 750 mil. Or 3/4's of a liter.

I guess you could call it a fourth\ instead of a fifth ,LOL

I will drink Jack Daniels, and I really like 7 year Beam. Crown is great, and Evan Williams is ok at times, and I could do without Knob Creek. But this will surprise you all.................my favorite mixing whiskey is Calvert Extra. Thats right $3.50 a pint......it is bottom shelf, but damn I like that stuff in coke or Pepsi.

Oh yeah and my absolute favorite Vodka is Grey Goose. WOW!!!! what a smooth vodka.

oh I forgot Wild Turkey 101.......now that is fun

Yeah, back when I used to drink the Bushmills was a favorite. My family is from Ireland and Scotland and I have a lot of relatives over there. In Ireland some of the older folks will not touch Bushmills with a 10 foot pole. Bushmills is distilled in Antrim, which is in Northern Ireland so a lot of the hard core types in the Republic won't drink it as they consider it un-Irish. Jameson's which is distilled in ROI (Republic of Ireland) is the choice. Either that or a brand called Paddy's. But most of the folks there nowadays aren't as hung up on the whole Northern Ireland vs Republic thing as they used to be.

If you ever go to Ireland see if you can get your hands on some potean, (pronounced like paw-cheen) it's their version of moonshine and will give you something to tell stories about for years to come.

I know all about it, my Mother was from Wales. I lived there when I was younger. The worst drunk I have ever been on was with her father,

White Horse Scotch chased with orange squash. Then the local Welsh version of home made. I was pulling on a chain for three days

Is my terminology off?

My understanding is:

1/5 of a gallon, which is 128 oz.

1/5 x 128 = 25.6 oz. = 757 mL

The liquor industry is the only one, to my knowledge, that went straight to metric. They loved it because they could sell basically the same sizes (half pint, pint [known as "ones and twos"], fifth, quart, half gallon) at the same price but put less in.

Unless I'm at a gay bar I'm not ordering anything called a "dewtini." Sorry.

dave you are right on. But the term a "fifth" is false advertisment if a retailer uses it. Liquor is sold in 50 mil, 200 mil, 375 mil, 500 mil, 750 mil, 1 liter, 1.75 lite.

Wine is 187 mil, 350 mil, 500 mil, (rare), 750 mil, 1 liter, 1.5 liter, 3 liter, 5 liter.

Gallons, pints etc.... are not what is sold, though people will still use the term Pint when they want a . 375

topic of drinks.

no, alcoholic beverages, specifically liquor is the topic here, not monkey piss.

Though I have drank some liquors that I have no doubt tasted like monkey piss.

to be honest either of those bands could have been subbed for Neil. Been listening to them for longer than you have been alive.

I am surprised it took me this long to find this thread. I spent too many years drinking it, a few years mixing it for a living, and a few years making my own. Working in a private club with a bunch of snobby rich members did teach me one or two things. They will buy anything that they are told is "special" and anything that is expensive. They may not appreciate it but they will buy it regardless.

I got to sample just about every high end spirit you can get in this part of the country and a bunch you can not. I used to joke and say I got paid to drink, because I did.

What I keep on hand at the house:

Vodka - Vox, Pravda, or Goose but one of the best cheap ones is Polar Ice.

Tequilla - El Tesoro Añejo

Irish Whiskey - Redbreast 12 year old

Bourbon/Whiskey - Dickle 12 year and Elijah Craig but I have some Jack on hand for my Brother in Law with no taste.

Scotch - I never developed a taste for it but I have some Oban and Glenmorangie on hand for Dad.

Gin - I do not care for but I keep some Tanqueray on hand for others.

I'd say someone guided you well in your selection of the scotch and the gin.

Tanqueray and tonic in a "rocks" glass with a twist of lime is my all-time favorite summer time drink. Yumm, yummmmm.

The Wifey loves that stuff, too. The smell of gin reminds me of a barber shop for some reason. :tough:

Though I love Tequila (and many other liquors, after all I am Scottish, and my family is from a "little" town called Glasgow) I do occasionally imbibe in a wee dram of single malt scotch whisky. I prefer 10 year old Glenmorangie. :D
