Another scenario

Put yourself in the same scenario as the walking dead. If you can't find food and fuel in "Hotlanta" there is something wrong with you. Since there seems to stil be electricity I would go to the top of Stone Mountain and cut the power to the tram till I needed to use it. I don't think zombies can rock climb

I'd personally commandeer myself a nice big sailing yacht and take to the sea, only coming ashore when I absolutely had to, and then only at remote locations or small islands.

The problem with your yacht idea is that on The Walking Dead, everyone has the virus and will turn when they die. Think about everyone sleeping in your yacht, someone dies in their sleep, re-animates and starts biting the bejesus out of everyone? What a horrible way to go.

I like the island idea though, but any defendable position would still need multiple people working together.

As far as electricity, eventually that system will fail, what a ####ty time to be stuck at the top of some mountain that is not climbable with your skill level. Now you need to find somewhere else to set-up camp, IF you make it down.

Borrowing from WWZ I still think an island would work, like Rock Island up in the Misssissippi, or one of the islands up in the great lakes area. Either way, I really hope zombies stay on the silver screen and not coming tearing open my porch screen!

Isnt one side of Stone Mountain sloped in a manner that one could climb it? I seem to recall there is, after riding the train around the base, a long time ago.

And yes, if you cannot find, food, water, fuel, medical supplies, guns, ammo, portable shelter, etc. in a major city, or even a minor town, villiage, or wide spot in the road, you are very bad off.

There are a whole lot of people (aka: potential zombies) in Atlanta and there would be even more if - like in The Walking Dead - Atlanta was used as a supposedly 'protected' area and everyone was told to flee there.

For me, given the choice, the last place I would go during any kind of disaster would be the place where everyone else is going. I'm not going to voluntarily go somewhere that is going to be overcrowded, probably under-supplied and where martial law is likely to be in place/enforced. In other words, I wouldn't be in Atlanta to begin with. Smaller towns with lower populations (and, therefore, fewer zombies) - especially after most of that population likely fled to Atlanta or wherever else they were told they would be 'safe' - sound like more viable options, to me.

Be very quiet on your island. Zombies don't need to breathe. As to a boat, make a really good "rat guard" as imagine the fun when ones climbs your anchor chain....

If I had to hole up on solid ground, I've been thinking modifying the terrain to have V shapes to try and route them around your property. Or really anything that would funnel them away from your primary residence. Not something you could build overnight, but move vehicles, cut trees strategically etc.

Speaking of trees, what about planting evergreens? Would block sight and help muffle sound year round. Can't help but think that could be useful against both living and dead. Not up close of course, but along the perimeter etc.
