So...

I have a buddy that hooked me up with a pretty sweet Remington woodsman model 742 in 30-06 that was made in 1956.(first year of production according to teh internets)

Came with the original scope still in the plastic, two mags, sling, and looks like its hardly been shot at all!

I'm pretty excited because I'm a gun dork, but am interested to hear any opinions...

From what I can find online, I got a pretty damn good deal.

Anyone have any experience with these dudes?

Keep the bolt and action slide slots in the receiver well lubricated. The gun is a surprisingly accurate autoloader and well-made, the main issues they have is the slots in the receiver getting excessively worn over time. Here's one I built awhile back

They are fantastic guns. I am not sure why they aren't selling for more on the market.

The fact that a ratty old mini 14 can sell for $550 and a 742 in 308 or 30/06 goes for $300 is one of life's mysteries.

Availablity of hi cap maga would be my guess. And the A Team didnt use a 742.
