North Carolina Village: Concealed Carry Ban a “Mistake�

At a recent meeting, councilors voted to repeal the original concealed carry ban ordinance and to allow the practice in these public places.

“The council is not afraid to say it made a mistake,†Mayor Nancy Fiorillo told The Pilot.

Admittedly, the council had a little help in realizing its mistake. Once the original regulation was made known, many residents voiced their opposition to the concealed carry ban.

“Our inboxes have been flooded,†Fiorillo said.

“Prior to the discussion with the public [on the recent vote], each council member said they erred when voting for the ordinance on July 24,†The Pilot reported.

“It is one of the few votes I wish I had back because it punishes citizens,†council member Mark Parson said.

“I wish I had thought about it and done a little better homework,†fellow council member Doug Lapins said. “I don’t see where this (ordinance) does a thing for us as a village.â€

They only realized they made an error when their phone lines were inundated by angry voters who were upset by the concealed carry ban. Amazing! You'd think that they would have realized an error was in progress when they began to trounce on their citizen's Second Amendment rights! God save us from idotic politicians!

You and I know they knew what they where doing when they did it. They just tried to slip one by and they did.

At least they seem to have listened to public demand after and fixed it.

Can not say I've ever seen politicians admit to voting in error of judgment.

Narcissistic assholes usually stand by their decisions even after they realize their wrongs and take it all the way through the courts.

I don't know NC statutes, but I wonder if they didn't find out it was illegal to do it under state law as the real reason they rescinded it, and their explanation is just PR oriented.

I agree. People throw the word 'mistake' around much too freely these days. To me, a mistake means there is at least some element of accident, confusion or non-intent. A politician partying in a hotel room with three hookers, a pound of cocaine and a goat isn't a 'mistake' as it requires intent, preparation and premeditation - it is a stupid decision but not a mistake. Likewise, you don't trip over your shoe laces and accidentally vote away citizens' rights. The way they originally voted was intentional therefore it was not a mistake. The only way it was a mistake is if they said 'Aye' when they meant to say, 'Nay' or if they misunderstood the issue on which they were voting. I doubt that was the case. Too often these days people use the term 'mistake' as a way to appear to be taking responsibility for dumbass decisions while actually avoiding that very responsibility, as in, "It isn't my fault, really. It was all just a big mistake."
