I really hope they are afraid to arrest and convict Sheriff Joe Arpaio, afraid of the probable civil unrest that woud follow. Like Ruby Ridge, this would be federal tyranny at it's best again, threatening, harrassing, and illegally arresting a patriot because he's a thorn in the side of on of the most corrupt tyrants residing in the White House.

I think their original allegations were trumped

up to begin with. The Feds spent way too

much time "investigating" him and didn't take

any time to investigate the Black Panther

polling intimidation during that election. Tells

me it was political intimidation all along.

They just wanted to push him around and give him a hard time. The .fed can legally harass anyone who may be getting too big for their britches.

Triple is right on with this answer. I believe it was, in fact, an attempt at harassment and intimidation. Evidently the old man is squeaky clean, or they would have found something ala Scooter Libby. I also believe that some high ranking Demorat from Arizona or other points southwest where there is border trouble gave some good advice to the demorat political operatives. That advice is "....dont rock the boat....". Arizona is pretty much a republican state except for the usual demorat strongholds around the universities and the moonbat larger cities. I also suspect that there may be some quietly spoken "quid pro quo" talk between the feds and the governor regarding bringing charges against demorat political operatives at the federal level. Ya just never know how some of this works out. I believe that several of the Republican governors have sent pretty strong messages to the demorats about heavy handed investigating and enforcement by the U S Attorneys (...who are, in fact political operatives themselves...). Remember, all this "witch hunting" and "investigating" works two ways.

The fed has been getting too big for their britches for a long time. I respect people like Sheriff Joe for the fact the he's got the guts to push the feds buttons from time to time, he's a rarety unlike the bootlickers we often elect with naive expectations that they will actually be different. I also believe the administration is a little afraid of his popularity and the negative backlash and anti-fed feelings arresting someone like Sheriff Joe would cause.

Intimidation is the answer, IMO.

They DON'T want him in court, testifying as to what he knows as a result of his investigation. They don't want that info as part of the record.

What we need is Sheriff Joe in front of a grand jury, with a prosecutor like Thomas Dewey (if there is one).
