165 gr Federal Hydra-shock still effective?

Have an RIA compact 45 acp. Just purchased some 165 gr Federal Hydra-shock personal protection rounds. Is this going to be effective or not????

Yes. That is on the low end weight-wise, but it is still going fast and is delivering good energy into a target. I prefer a heavier round, but that comes with a trade off in heavier recoil. I'm far from an expert, but this is my experience. Bottom line is, you smack someone with a .45, they will know it.

It is going to be a very effective round. I would normally switch off between those lightweight bullets in the summer and heavuer bullets in the winter. Overpenetration is also reduced with lighter bullets. Do no carry FMJ's as they will pass through pretty much anybody you might have to shoot. And you are responsible for that bullet even after it has passed through a bad guy.
