Plowing out the tater patch

Spots

Recommended Posts

We plant both seed taters, and last years left overs. Cut the potatos up, with at least two eyes per piece. We plant in early to mid march, when the signs are in the thighs. The farmers almanac can help you there. Plow the furrow, then walk down dropping the pieces in, then go back and either cover with a hoe, or a hiller plow. We usually get 10 bushel for every 50 lbs we plant. If anyone has any other questions, feel free to ask.

Got a really dumb question tho.....

Can you just stick taters that you got in a bag at the grocery store into the ground and they make more taters? or is there a special planting one you have to get first?

I seen corn and stuff at the co op to plant.. but never taters..

Yes you can, but the ones at the COOP are more rot resistant. I have grown many a tater with ones from the store when the "eyes" start growing on them.
