Carry in Georgia Dome

Recommended Posts

I think this place is posted, however signs in Georgia carry no force of law. Anyone know if they have metal detectors/door friskers?

I'm going to the UT vs NC State on Friday. I feel pretty good about the stadium security, it's the late night MARTA ride that has me thinking.

I don't think you can carry at athletic events in Georgia. You might want to check www.handgunlaw.us

If you are an off duty LEO you can carry at the Dome at a game legally.

Nothing mentioned in the statute. There used to be a " public gathering" clause, but that is no longer the case.

If the dome is posted I most likely won't carry, regardless of the 'force of law'. I'll just have to trust my life to the APD

Yeah, the public gathering clause was repealed a couple of years ago - interestingly one of the last Jim Crow laws to be struck down.

The Dome does list "no firearms allowed", but as far as I know, they don't conduct searches, and signs have no weight of law unless you're asked to leave.

That said, there's a lot of potential for ruining an otherwise fun event when you have to ride MARTA back to where you're staying to stow your weapon.

This is my fear, and most likely the deciding factor

I was wondering the same thing as I will be attending this game at the dome. Least i wouldn't have to ride the MARTA back. But still good to know. I wish S&W would hurry up and put out more shields, i went today to try to find one and no luck( not in Fayetteville either).

For what its worth, i was in atlanta for the Clemson Game/Braves/Nascar weekend. Marta is posted as "no firearms or weapons of any type--exception to those with valid carry permits" I would highly reccomend going armed on the Marta. Most resturants are not posted. Tuner field is legally posted but no metal detectors--make your own decision. Georgia dome is a no go as far as i know.

... Tuner field is legally posted ....

Signs do not have force of law in GA, except that they may also denote a place that is already off limits by law and Turner Field isn't. The trespassing thing applies, as in most other states.

Yeah I chose not to carry at the football/baseball/NASCAR extravaganza weekend. I could have shot someone in all that traffic. It was backed up 50 miles outside Atlanta on I-85!

You could easily carry in the Georgia Dome. They only search bags and purses, not your person. I was gonna pocket carry my .380. And could have done so no problem.

The MARTA was so packed after the game, you could n't draw a weapon If you had it, let alone not hit bystanders. Literally elbow to elbow, butt to butt, it was kind of nerve racking.

I wonder if that is different when the Falcons play. The NFL is big on no weapons and I seem to remember folks getting searched pretty thoroughly at the Titans games...

A suggestion, if you are so concerned with the Marta ride, pay extra for a Taxi. A little extra money spent for piece of mind? What is the problem with that?

60,000 people leaving at one time causes a traffic problem. I imagine taxis are at minimum plus could still be slow. The MARTA really is the quickest way in and out.

Maybe we stayed out too late (the main reason i didn't carry). When we got on the MARTA it was 25% full of bums and thugs.
