Stats regarding the empire state incident

Recommended Posts

Just some raw stats from the event:

The shooter fired 6 shots. 5 hit the victim in the head and one in the torso. There were 2 rounds left in the gun and apparently it held 8.

Hit rate was 100%.

The NYPD cops fired 16 rounds. 9 hit the intended target. 3 were recovered from the body, 4 passed through and 2 were unexplained. 3 passers by received direct gunshot wounds and 6 others suffered fragmentation wounds.

Hit rate 56.25%

I'm not passing judgement on the cops because God knows what I would be able to hit in a high stress situation but I just wanted to put the data out there.

Distance?

Drawing from retention during high stress/uncertainty?

Target awareness?

I can walk up to some unsuspecting guy and put a mag into him no problem. A real test is to have me try and do it to a guy that's armed and about to shoot me.

People miss paper up close in classes or at the range.

At the range if you miss paper you hit the backstop. You kill innocent people if you miss on the street.

Meh, people took a round or some frag. It's not the end of the world....at least not in this instance :ugh: I've still got a ricocheted round in my leg.

Another way to look at it is....

trigger weight?

training?

how many rounds a year do they get to train with? Or is it just minimal fam fire & qual?

mindset?

etc

Sometimes rounds go wide. It happens to the best unfortunately. Maybe NYC will learn and get their guys some legit training time. Although I doubt it.

I'm not entirely excusing their shots....but I'm not monday morning quarterbacking their actions into the ground either.....especially since I've never been a cop in a gunfight.

If they had taken a round serious enough to matter, it would have been plastered all over the news. They didn't catch a round to the face, aorta, jugular, etc. I haven't read anything to the contrary. I'm curious to the locations of all these wounds.

I'm sure they're angling to cash in on it too.

What bothers me on this issue is that just a few weeks ago, after the Batman movie shooting, when people said they wished a CCW was in the crowd. The biggest backlash was people saying that's bad because of how many innocents would be hit in the crossfire.

Are we supposed to just let the "rampager" do his thing killing people, so that we don't kill people while trying to stop him/her? It makes absolutely no sense.
