Interested in this info as well. I've been to Chuck Swan and hunted the public fields. That was fun, but 10 people shooing at the same bird gets kind of hectic.

I'm interested as well. Ever shot over at Three Forks Lumber Jack?

No, the one time I planned to, someone sewed illegal grass 2 weeks before opening, so TWRA closed the field. I've heard it's good but can be crowded.

Neil, you can come harvest some off my back veranda with my BB gun; they're always baited there. :)

Big fat pigeons, too, growth-hormone free.

It's pretty good for around here. I'm going to be there on the 1st, and hopefully before most show up.

Haha, my boss has a bird feeder on the deck and it's soooo tempting :)

Sounds good to me. I will be there with another friend and his girlfriend though, but if you don't mind someone down a little bit I don't care if you want to meet. I think I have you number in your phone but I'll PM you mine just in case.

I eat them, I think they are hard to beat actually. I like to marinate them in Italian dressing, wrap a piece of bacon around them and grill them.

Do you eat the doves?

What !0 Ring said. They're delicious.

Seems like an awful small bird to get any meat off! My son in law said, rock salt is used for shot, is that correct?

That is the third or fourth time I have heard of someone using Italian dressing. I have always just soaked them in a little water, with just a little bit of salt and lemon. I will have to try the dressing Saturday night.

It takes several to make a meal, but they are good.

I will generally use #7 1/2 or #8 lead shot.

Well it would pre salt them for you. I just use regular shot like what you can get at Wallyworld for clays and dove.

I'm having a hard time imagining using rock salt. Lead 8's work just fine. All I've ever eaten on them is the breast, as far as I know that's all of the meat that is on a dove. I'd say the average dove breast is about the size of a chicken egg. Doves have such a high mortality rate and short life span to where most that are alive this dove season will not be this time next year.

The leased dove fields are posted now on the TWRA web site,i was going to go to Chuck Swan but i live withing 7 miles of there & when this cold front came in the #s here dropped by 2/3.Looks like a loudon field will be my first hunt this year.I have been seeing several of the collard doves in west knoxville recently

i have a hard tjme hitting them but they are tastey

That's the only advantage to shooting in crowded fields. When a bit falls you can claim you killed it, cause who could argue :)

I may head over to the Robertson County lease field. It's only a couple miles from my house. The field looks good, but I didn't sit there to see if there were any birds.
