Why can't people just mind their own business?

Seems here lately a lot of people stick their noses into my life without invitation. I'm always getting comments such as "I don't know how you live that far out in the sticks, hopefully one day you will be able to move closer to town." And "That doesn't sound like a very good job, why don't you go put in an application at XXX?" Here is the thing I'm pretty happy in most every aspect of my life. People make assumptions that I am forced to live "out in the sticks" while in reality that is what I have wanted since I was a small child. I work a job that I really do like and I don't think many people can say that. I'll never be rich but I make enough money to be pretty comfortable and I'm happy with it so I don't know why everyone else cares so much. And if I hear one more person tell me that motorcycles are dangerous and I shouldn't ride them I just might scream.

Oh, and motorcycles are dangerous. You shouldn't ride them. And you shouldn't own guns because you might shoot yourself, or knives because you might cut yourself.

I always just stand and stare at people like that as if they have a third eye or something without responding. It makes them very uncomfortable, and rarely does the conversation last very much longer. They certainly don't come back a second time.

As you gain a little age and financial security, the same people go from offering unsoliciting advice to prying into your personal business to try and find out why you are more successful and happier than they are. The same response works here as well.

Lol. Work the sarcasm up, it really is effective --- nothing shuts people down like a prepared comeback to the most common stuff.

For me, it was my lawn. My next door neighbor griped about how I did not mow once a week for a while, until I told her my mower was out back of my house and she could use it to mow my yard as much as she wanted anytime she wanted. She spluttered for a bit and wanderd off never to complain again. And for the longest it was "when you gonna have kids, can you not have kids, don't you want to have kids, you could adopt if something is wrong, kids kids kids...." I have some choice remarks about that topic but its not fit for posting here :P

Another prime example. I don't get that one much because my family is pretty traditional and I never bothered to get married. My brother on the other hand did and he and his wife don't want kids, not anytime soon anyway. Both of us are a good bit past the age when most people start having kids. My sister in law finally get my parents to can it when she replied "Maybe you should talk to your other son about having some kids, he might be able to help you there!"

I get the kids thing from my grandmother all the time. Being type I diabetic, I decided not to have children a long time ago(it's hereditary). I am over 40 with 2 step kids that have made my life trying enough(joking) so I don't feel the need to put my medical burdens on my children and or grandchildren. I usually reply to the kids thing with," I try every chance I get!!!" that usually shuts them up pretty quick.

^^^^ That is along the lines of what I say, except I put it a lot more crudely.

I mostly view nosey people as a form of entertainment. I have been "blessed" with a bunch of them from my childhood neighborhood/church/school/etc. Its better than TV when they come flocking to ask about every aspect of my life.

I usually reply with "Thank you for your concern. I am concerned about your (Pick any or all: smoking, horrible driving, poor diet, lack of exercise, filthy home, over-drinking, whoring around, drug abuse, body odor, lice, stealing, etc)". That usually stops the conversation and prevents others from following the same direction.

My wife and I had that long before we had kids. Then we had kids and it seemed like the meddling comments increased tenfold. Both sides of the family have already experienced the wrath of a father who doesn't tolerate that nonsense. I give it a few more years before they get brave enough to say anything again.

I get the thing about kids a lot. "oh you'd make a great father!" "Everyone needs at least one." Truth is, I have no interest in children and have no idea how to even relate to them.

Ha, well it's funny because you feel they way until you have kids, then you find yourself crawling on your hands and knees helping build a Lego fort because it is just that awesome. I wanted a son, but never could relate to a kid his age until it was one of my own. Then it all comes natural. But, if you don't want kids in the first place then you shouldn't have them. The solution to the world's problems isn't more people, but if you want kids I can promise that you won't regret the decision.

My father once told me that the hardest two things a man ever learns to say is

1. That is none of my business!

and

2. That is none of your business!

When I am asked nosy questions , I simply look sternly at them and say " I really can't see where that is any of your business." it usually ends the conversation pretty quick.

You've entered a bigger area than you may know. THis is the WHOLE country's problem. People cannot manage their own life for rooting around in someone else's. You got nosey politicians trying to play GLobocop instead of solving our own internal problems. YOu got busy body old battle axes gossiping about everyone's business and what sinners they are instead of dealing with their own crack whore daughter. Hippies got their nose in everyone's business when they should be taking a bath and dragging a razor over that disgusting mug of theirs. Neighbors telling neighbors how to raise their kids.

THere's a sack full of aßß whoopin's that need dealing out in this country. Most of them are busybody related. Imagine how things would improve if we left the eastern desert to rot and focused on our own south western desert. Stop shooting people over oil or terrorist training camps and started killing drug lords.

I was minding my business at work until some lady came over and said look up "X" cabin in the Smokies, saying "it would be a great place for you and your friends to party." I'm assuming that it's because I am a younger fellow. In any case I looked her in the eyes and said "I don't have any friends." That ended it real quickly.

Also what Caster said.

I feel ya. I have lived and worked in Florida for 40 years. I can not leave my garage door open without someone getting up in my business. My granfather had some land outside of Algood and I went there as a kid, it was magical and I want my two grandkids to be able to experience that.

I was just looking this morning for 25 or more wooded acres. The requirements are as follows: Must be able to setup a small range on my property. Must be able to place a small house or cabin on the property that can not be seen from off of my property. No, I am not going to moonshine or cook meth. I just want to be left alone.

If it's friends or family who are being nosy, I usually just growl and glare at them to get the message across. It works. I don't know why but for some reason in my family if the older sibling is grouchy it's okay, but if it's me then everybody wants to know whats wrong, or everybody thinks I'm being cruel and disrespectful, or everybody thinks I dont love them, or whatever else you can think of. One of these days I need to ask my brother how he got the family to just leave him alone. I don't really have a problem with people outside friends or family being nosy. I must not have a very friendly demeanor.

Nosey People are why I do not (and probably never will have) a Facebook account. I guess some folks just like to air their laundry on the Internet, but I guess that's different because they are offering the info to anyone that wants to read it. I have seen some people get so wrapped up over what so-and-so has on Facebook that it's pathetic. Just to :stir: I thought about creating a FB account with just a blank page, and my Status would say "Minding my own business so mind yours."

I would love to have 4 or 5 kids. I would home school them, train them early in survival and para-military techniques including blades, handguns and military style weapons so they will be prepared to defend freedom against the liberal-socialist invasion of America.

Just tell them that. :usa:
