Water Well - who's had one drilled

I had the same questions when I moved here.

Don't consult the Yellow Pages, ask your neighbors who they recommend. You'll find out in a hurry by their experience who you can trust and at a reasonable price.

One thing about country life, people tend to stick together and help each other out and not get crapped on... JMHO and a tip from Henry County.

Chris Cummings in Chester Co. is who I would call. He just done some service work on one for me a couple weeks ago. Very nice guy and reasonable.

Dennis is giving you good advice. I too have a place up Henry County way and got all the input that I could from the neighbors when I had my well drilled. I will share a couple of tips. No matter if the well head is above or below ground, it will still freeze. Buy a well heater. When the drilling folks tell you they have hit water, ask them to drill an extra 20 feet or so. The underground water table does rise and fall and you do not want a sink full of sand in your dwelling.

wondering in general terms - $10K, $25K, $50K ??

but I am in East TN, Anderson County, and there is a pond ~100' downhill in elevation, and ground water (year round spring) a few more hundred feet in elevation down the hill (I am on the top of a ridge).

Had one drilled in semi-difficult place for the rig to reach in slanting holler around 1985-86 by The family that did most of them in Union County at the time.

Hit pert good water at about 75', but for various reasons they suggested going further into bedrock, think it was about 110' when done. Believe it was about $3500, another maybe grand or $1200 for well pipe, submerged pump, wiring, pipe down to the house (I dug the 200' 24" deep trench from well myself, by hand too by gawd), and inside pressure tank.

Long time ago, I guess it's a lot more now; then again, it was obvious this outfit's real bottom line price depended on a lot of factors, like how much work they had waiting, whether they liked you, etc.

Kinda off topic but who found your water source for ya? My uncle had a company find his, while my Grandpaw found my parents. Grandpa was a water witch and our well has never went dry, and its 73 ft. My uncles goes dry every summer and it was 127 ft. He didnt believe Papa could realy find water.
