Another Open-Carry Advocate Making Gun Owners Look Like Loons.

The Officer was responding to a call from a Citizen. That is the way it should always happen. The Officer did an excellent job. I’m actually surprised the two goof balls posted the video.

I would gladly have the law changed in TN to require concealment in public (not for hunters, fishermen, shooting at range) IF I could carry in schools, all parks, and past any sign. It would greatly cut down on this silliness of people carrying a gun to prove something.

I wouldn't. I'd hate to get snatched up because my shirt rode up a little and exposed my firearm.

Agreed. No need to be limited to one style only.

You would rather not be able to carry inside schools to open carry VS concealing and carrying wherever you want? I'd say that is a pretty good trade off to be able to carry wherever an off duty LEO can carry in Tennessee.

Once you're out of college, what is the benefit of being able to carry in schools? With the exception of taking a child to school. So yes, I would rather be able to open carry versus carry in schools.

The school charge to intent to go armed is a felony. Some people have to do work at schools. It would be nice for my permit to be good on school property, even if I was required to conceal.

Tennessee should look into Michigan gun laws. Open carry is allowed without permit and a ccp allows you to go past signs concealed. They have some crazy restrictions on purchasing and concealment(as in you get in a vehicle you are concealed and must unload w/o ccp.) The big thing is that while concealed you can go anywhere except government buildings basically. Ccp takes the power out of the sign. Trespassing does apply of course.

Well coming from your point of view then I understand why you would like that and that is a good point. From my point though I don't do work in or around schools so that isn't a concern for me.

Yes it is a hassle to visit my daughters at college for this reason. Even with gun locked in safe behind seat parking on campus is a no-no. It is just a hassle to disarm and make sure no holster is showing...ect.

Tennessee should look into Michigan gun laws.

If we are going to look at others states carry laws first look at Vermont. Only four states recognize the Right to bear arms; Tennessee needs to become the fifth.

The guy in the video is not a "gun rights activist".

He is a "I get a hard-on for baiting cops and posting videos on the internet activist". There are plenty of videos from these douche bags that are not using firearms.

It's just that this guy is using a firearm as a catalyst for the interaction.

The simple solution for stopping these douches? Stop feeding their youtube views.

Bingo. We are in no way "the patron state of shooting stuff". Our guns laws while less restrictive than California or Illinois, show that the state recognizes gun carry as a right in exactly the same way as those two states, it doesn't. The only difference is that for $115 you can purchase the privilege.

Those Jack Wagons are trolling for cops so they can make a video and post it on the internet so they can get some attention.

"DIDN'T YOUR MOTHERS HUG YOU ENOUGH?" ......LOOSERS.

This has been discussed many many times here: TN allows a non-student adult to leave unloaded firearm in vehicle on school property (as long as not handled at all while on school property).

Agree with second sentence, but VT issues no permit at all for reciprocity purposes, so that part doesn't need to be emulated.

How about we stop trading our God given rights away? And keep focusing on getting rid of unconstitutional anti-carry laws?

As it's been said in the past, not all open carry folks are doing it to make a statement... many do it because for one reason or another open carry is the only way they can carry day to day... I'd much rather have a gun with the "risks" some complain about, than be completely unarmed.

Some of us wear business clothes, where it's virtually impossible to comfortable conceal carry a full size (or in many cases a compact) pistol. I for one refuse to walk around with my shirt tail hanging out like a bum just to cover up my pistol to run into the gas station on my way home.

The number of times I open carry a month? 10-12... Last only time I set foot on school property... only to vote a couple of times every 2 years. So for me, I'd much rather have the ability to toss my serpa holster on my belt and hop out of the car without having to get half undressed than the ability to carry in a school.

I don't agree with the stop but The cop was polite and professional.

We could use more cops like him around here for training other cops.

I wear a suit more often than not and carry a either a G31 or 20 or 21 or a full sized 1911 with no problem concealing...if I'm not in a suite I'm in dress slacks and a dress shirt; I never thought carrying that way was any more difficult than any other???.

Regardless of someone's "rights", if someone is carrying (especially if unholstered) a weapon and it looks like a full auto, I hope they stop that person and find out what that person is up to.

While no all folks carry to make a statement many clearly do and many clearly want a confrontation as well; they do a disservice to all when they do.

Why not? He had beyond reasonable suspision to question and detain for investigative purposes. Don't like it? Don't OC. Remember a LEO in TN can do that in TN just because he sees a firearm, if the officer chooses.

The police had reasonable cause because the firearm appeared to be an H&K subgun. All the officer did was request to inspect to make sure the firearm was either a papered subgun or a look alike.

I wear business casual when I work and have yet to have a problem concealing a handgun. With the right holster and right gun, you can hide it well enough that no one knows you have a gun.

I don't call the permit system in Tennessee much of a right and it honestly is not a right to open carry like Kentucky. Until the state constitution gets changed to where it is like Kentucky's or Louisiana's, you don't have a right to open carry a handgun in Tennessee.

But he didn't break the law.

We don't need to send the police out everytime some Yankee that just moved down here sees something I don't like. I'm a Yankee by the way.

I just had two hundred members of the Small Penis Brigade ride by here on thier Harleys with loud exhaust blaring. Was it rude and inconsiderate as well as against the law? Yes. Did I cal the law. No.

But he didn't break the law....

Would have been unlawful here period, so don't emulate the behavior in TN.
