Old JC Higgins 12 ga. Pump

I have an OLD JC Higgins (Sears) 12 ga. pump; made by Mossberg. Not a great old gun. I am thinking about having the 28" barrel cut down to legal length for use as a home defense shotgun. I would like the opinions of TGO members about this idea as well as suggestions of good gunsmiths in the Nashville area. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Sounds like a good idea,Mossberg shotguns are not known for their looks but they work.Any gunsmith worth his salt ought to be able to cut down a shotgun barrel and install a bead sight.
