Wheel weights?

If so did you make sure none of them were zinc? I found out the hard way that there is zinc wheel weights. And that zinc will melt in lead. Once cast into bullets they will not hurt anything but aluminum will disolve in molten zinc. It can ruin a aluminum mold.

I did not ruin my mold but I do have bullets that have zinc in them

I never knew this until Caster clued me in. I had cast probably 30 pounds of bullets only to find out they were zinc. Not that big of a deal unless they don't shoot. Then I have to toss them rather than remelt them or just make blaster ammo.

BTW, I cast EVERYTHING I reload except 223. Casting makes shooting so much cheaper and for me more enjoyable. I can load 45 ACP for under .05 each with quality compnents. If I used a bargain primer and miserly powder I can do it for under.04 each. I load 9mm for under .04 too. I recently started loading 300 blackout and I cast bullets for it. It costs me more, per round, for CCI Minimags than it does for my 240 grain 300 blackout loads.

Without casting I could not afford to shoot what I shoot and as much as I do. It would also be too expensive for me to shoot things like the 300 without casting.

Yeah they are wheel weights and I am very careful to make sure I separate all of the zinc and steel weights from my lead. All I cast is 45acp because that's pretty much all I shoot. I shoot IDPA usually at least 2 times a month and hit every major match between here and Florida that I can make it too. Plus all the practice and plinking, I probably go through 20k + rds a year. I have to shoot a little everyday or it just don't feel right lol
