Do you ever see other people carrying?

Recommended Posts

I never expected to see a couple kel-tecs and a LCP being open carried.

And here I thought the whole point of carrying pocket pistols was to carry them IN THE POCKET! What was I thinking??? :wall:

My dad carried a loaded Colt Commando 2" in his car for about 40 years in Polk County without a permit. Knowing the local magistrate well didn't hurt any.

would that be the magistrate who himself drove around with a trunkload of guns to sell and trade? I met such an ex judge a few years back while working a construction job in Polk Co.His brother was the job superintendent and he would come up to visit often to show us what he had.

I'm pretty sure that's the kind of information that Dad would have shared with me, so I don't believe they are the same person.

I had an eye opening situation when I was in Bible study last year. There were about 15 guys meeting that day and one of the guys had to take his gun out of its holster to adjust after he sat down on it funny. A couple of the guys laughed and said it happens everyonce and a while to them. The conversation went on about ways to carry and then someone asked how many were carrying at that moment. We all decieded to place the guns on the table at the same time and wouldnt't you know EVERY guy there was carrying. We had met every week for a year and until that day we had no idea the rest of us were carrying, The funny part is that there were 2 more guns than people so that ment we had 2 guys that had back ups on them. My Sig and 2 revolvers were the only large frame guns the rest were subcompacts and I think that had a lot to do with the fact we never saw anyone carrying.

That's freakin' awesome!

In my time working for lowes in North Knox(8 months) I have seen a couple people printing pretty badly and a handful of OC. The thing that amazes me is that 3 of the people practicing the right to OC were carrying very small guns. I never expected to see a couple kel-tecs and a LCP being open carried. If im going to OC it's going to be my hk45 or my g17. I mean the people printing were carrying pretty large framed guns, you could tell.

I might have been one of those halfway concealing a large frame gun. Lol. Been in there a few times while carrying. I almost always carry a 1911 OWB with a t-shirt over it. Usually it conceals well as long as the shirt isn't too small. :P

I have been ocing alot lately especially on the weekends. Im 22 and I have not yet had any issue or been confronted. I have however gotten dirty looks, and have seen people freak out. Whenever I'm ocing I always make sure im extra polite and extra courteous.

Saw a guy OC at greatclips today. One guy eyeballed the gun at the cash register and the lady that cut his hair never noticed it. It was pointed out to her by her next customer. She said she didnt care if people carried, but thinks people that OC just want people to think they are a badass.lol Not her exact words.

ETA-She did say that the owner told them if they had a permit that he didnt mind if they carried.

My wife and I were in Gatlinburg this weekend and either I'm bad at spotting them or nobody was carrying or the ones carrying where concealed very well cause I didn't notice anyone. I was carrying my Sig sp2022 in a supertuck just under my t-shirt. I know I print some but you can't physically see the gun. I got no looks or freak outs that let's me know I'm concealing well enough. I don't mind open carry but I'm only 24 and I can imagine some of the responses.

I was walking through Gatlinburg last night and was printing pretty bad with the wind blowing so hard. I was wearing a 1911 in an OWB. I don't even worry about it because the only people that would notice wouldn't care. I'm pretty sure no one out of the few thousand people I passed noticed.

I was spotted and stopped yesterday. I was was carrying OWB with a shirt over it and was probably printing pretty hard. I don't carry ALL the time but everytime I have to hit the WW on Walbrook in West Knoxville I make sure I am. I had a bad experience there so I make sure I am ready this time. I had to bring my kids this time and that was apparently what the guy had a problem with. Here is what went down:

A guy came up to me and asked me if I had a gun on me, I asked if he was security, we both did not answer the questions. After a short awkward pause he started into me about how I was a bad parent for having my kids around guns. He got pretty loud and started to cause a scene. He got loud enough that it scared my daughter who began to cry. At this point someone apparently told security, the arrived just at the right time, I was about to start yelling back. When security came up they promptly escorted the guy out and asked me what happened. One of the security guys laughed as the took the other guy away and said he is getting tired of how ignorant people are about guns. He gave my kids a couple of stickers and told us to have a nice day. They also had a guy waiting at the door to make sure I made it to the car ok.

This was the first time I have been spotted that I know of. As much as I dislike WW, I was impressed with the way they handled the situation.

I have never seen anything like this before in my life. He was wearing a political shirt and sporting a pin "forward" pin so maybe he just came from a rally and was all worked up and felt empowered to voice his opinion. I have flat out OC'ed in the West Knoxville area and NEVER had even a second look. I have been offered a LEO discount several times but that is it.

It sure is amazing how intolerant the Tolerance People can be. ;(

How old is your daughter? Young enough she'll totally forget the incident, or old enough that she'll remember it when she's older and you use it as an example of what The Other Side is like and how they want to dictate how every one else lives?

She is 2, she did tell my wife when we got home that there was a "mean guy", but I am pretty sure she will forget about it, My son who is one giggled through the whole thing so I assume he is fine.

You handled it much better than I would have. I'd have told him that I didn't know him and that whatever I was doing was none of his business and walked away. Had he followed me and continued his tirade I would have told him that if he didn't shut up and stop scaring my children that I would call the police and press charges against him for harassment.

If I was there without my kids that is probably how I would have handled it. My kids have never seen me get mad and yell and I did not want to scare them more than that idiot was. I have found that my kids filter my actions a lot more than I ever thought they would have.

That is funny about your son giggling. On a serious note, it showed he had no fear/concern with you in his presence. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Actually, quite some time ago, my parents and I were at the Hardee's in Calhoun after a trip to the shooting range, ironically. Not long before we left, a fellow walked in with a pretty nice chunk of something on his hip. I dunno what it was, but it was certainly full sized. Of course, I guess if you open carry, you don't need to worry about size...

Y'know, my mother used to work at Lowe's. She told me once, you'd be surprised how many people give a carry permit for ID... for me, it's really nice to hear that kind of stuff.
