20 years after Ruby Ridge, there's forgiveness

I came across this story today and thought it was worth sharing...I remember how the events at Ruby Ridge incensed me; I suspect they did the same to many here. Anyway, I thought it worth posting.

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP)

When Sara Weaver saw her father Randy struck in the shoulder by a government sniper's bullet in the Idaho wilderness in August 1992, she began to sprint back to the family's cabin on a mountaintop called Ruby Ridge.

As the 16-year-old closed in, her mother, Vicki, opened the cabin door and stood behind it, holding Sara Weaver's 10-month-old sister in her arms. Just then, a sniper's bullet struck her mother in the head, killing her.

For the next nine days, the surviving Weavers holed up in the cabin while hundreds of federal agents laid siege in a standoff that helped spark an anti-government patriot movement that grew to include the Oklahoma City bombing.

Today, 20 years later, Sara Weaver has left the anger behind, finding religion — and forgiveness.

Lon Horiuchi can burn in hell.

He should have had to rot (or still be rotting) in jail first.

I'm not against "forgiveness"; in fact I admire anyone who can truly forgive such a horrible wrong; but the man, and his superiors should all have been punished for their actions.

The story glosses over some important facts and even uses the marxist hate group SPLC for information.
I believe the point of the story is not to rehash all the details; just to see the events from her perspective 20 years later. As for Randy Harris; he was acquitted of all charges. I admire her capacity to forgive; I don't think I could.

This event should never have happened...there was no reason why anyone should have been killed...the government and the FBI were out of control and needed to be reigned in and if nothing else, the events at Ruby Ridge, demonstrated that.

I sincerely hope he does!

Dave, in my opinion the federal marshal died of a genetic disorder - terminal stupidity. I'm not, repeat not going to rehash that old history, but your opinion in the matter is a decided minority.

Sooner or later, to man or to God, Horiuchi will answer for his misdeeds.

I couldn't agree more. I think that 9/11 played a huge part in the overall timeline and brought on the rapid dismissal because at that point because "we have more important things to figure out now"...... smoke and mirrors.

Someone in camo and no id comes onto your property and announces themselves by killing your dog and then firing at you..... and you are not going to unload on that person ?

After all these years I saw the best summary of Ruby Ridge ,written by an FBI agent.

- a few days into the siege, Danny Coulson of the FBI wrote this in a memo:

Something to Consider

1. Charge against Weaver is Bull ####.

2. No one saw Weaver do any shooting.

3. Vicki has no charges against her.

4. Weaver's defense. He ran down the hill to see what dog was barking at. Some guys in camys [camouflage] shot his dog. Started shooting at him. Killed his son. Harris did the shooting [of the FBI agent]. He [Randy Weaver] is in pretty strong legal position.

Maybe if Danny Coulson had been in charge this massacre wouldn't have happened.

Yeah, I think Dave is a little off base on this one. They could have picked up Weaver in town, just like they could've Koresh. Both events were all about the DoJ putting on a show.

Exactly. Dave, you're talking out of the wrong orifice.

I never mentioned Randy Weaver. He wasn’t there when the shooting started.

No FBI agents were killed. U.S. Marshal Bill Degan was murdered by Kevin Harris, Degan never fired his weapon.

Horiuchi's shot Weaver and his second shot was at Harris; that shot hit Harris and killed Vicki Weaver. That was the 2nd day. They had plenty of opportunity to surrender. Harris and Weaver got Vickie Weaver killed.

I’m not giving opinions here; I’m stating facts that aren’t in dispute; although this argument has been going on for 20 years. Why would you want to post a personal attack like that? confused.gif

Because it was the nicest way I could think of to phrase it?

When you state that one of the victims in the situation was responsible for the deaths of the other victims it IS an opinion, and a odorous one at that. Harris was acquitted of all wrongdoing so the "fact" is that the fed.gov was in the wrong. Also a fact is that contrary to what you stated, Degan did in fact fire his M16 7 times while moving 21 feet.

Your posting history shows that you will side with LE every time, regardless of the facts. You used to be LE, I get it. This is one instance however where time and evidence have shown that the LE agencies were in the wrong. It wasn't even really the US Marshall's fault, they were handed a bum case by the ATF. That being said, Degan wasn't murdered by Harris, but killed in self defense.

was harris convecfed of murder

No! Infact, not only was he acquitted, but the .gov had to pay him $380,000.

The .gov ended up paying out millions for this fuster cluck.

If the ATF wanted Weaver or Koresh, they had ample opportunities to take either of them before they

went and made their "statement" to all us "little people". If I recall correctely, Weaver "allegedly sold a

sawed off shotgun. That caused deaths? Koresh had children in his church compound, or whatever

you want to call it, and look what happened there. I remember someone on TV saying he had M16's in

there. I also remember hearing that Ms. Reno had an idea that this could do something about tax exempt

status for churches. What a load of crap, and more heinously, what a level of destruction for the government

to take this to. If they can get away with this kind of activity, and some of you think what is being posted, lately,

is just tinfoil garbage, you might reconsider some of your remarks. This was how long ago?

All kinds of allegations and the only things happening were burning up evidence and killing people.

I also agree with everything you said, Chucktshoes!

Weaver was accused of selling two sawed-off shotguns to an informant. According to Weaver, both shotguns were of legal length when he sold them, only to be shortened later by someone, possibly the informant.

I wasn't there, so I can't know who was telling the truth. But based on the countless facts we know today about how the .gov screwed this up, there is reasonable doubt in my mind that these claims were bogus.

The ATF and FBI are very good at this, in fact you might say those are their specialties. When folks run afoul of either organization and situations might get embarrassing, those folks tend to end up dead.
