It is a way for older folks or maybe folks with some light disabilities to serve their state, county and local communities. You don't have to run, jump or shoot to a standard. I am not a memeber but it may be something for some people to do.

actually back in the early 90's the State Guard was issued an allotment of M-16's...they were kept in the Armory. What happened to them?

No, that went away a few years ago.

Who exactly would be aiming at them? Since they aren't combatants, I really don't see them being in a firefight where the color of their patch would mean life or death...
