Never heard it referred to as such, but yes.

I have a wicker basket at the door and then a wooden crate (I think it was a Tangelo box) in the bedroom.

Pocket knives, name tags, couple of concert tickets, several watches, a necklace or two.

The one at the door is my catch all when I come home from work. Wallet, knife, zippo, chap stick, cigarette case, paracord bracelet, watch and pocket change.

Yep, got one for all my military ribbons and awards, some old coins passed down through the family and a few things from buddies in the Army that didn't make it back home... Can't remember the combination to it though, one of these years we're going to have to break it open and move it into the safety deposit box.

As a kid you keep those kinds of boxes full of stuff cause they're cool, now I keep it because it means more to me than it would be if it was a solid container of gold.

When my Grandpa past away, his newest wife sold all of his stuff like that at a garage sell, before telling anyone of his family.

All of his past disappeared, WWII military insignia, pocket knives, ...

I've always called it a junk drawer myself, but I do have one. My dad's drawer when I was growing up was like a mystic gold mine full of treasures that I wasn't allowed into...unless I snuck into it.

Thought I'd throw in a couple of pictures of mine. My granddad gave it to me when I was 5 or 6. My kids love to look at the contents. Looking at it last night, they found one of the treasured possessions of my youth, a set of keys that my other grandfather gave me that went to a DC-3 that he retired out of the Delta fleet. I remember treasuring those keys as a kid, thinking that if I could just find the plane they went to I'd have an escape plan for sure!
