Man Beaten, Arrested for Reportedly Carrying Handgun, Despite Having Concealed Carry Permit

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/its-my-gun-minn-man-beaten-arrested-for-reportedly-carrying-handgun-despite-having-concealed-carry-permit/

The problem here is that the guy’s name is King, and everybody knows that if you are black and your name is King, you get beat up by police….. seems to be so.

Unless there is a lot more to this story; it sounds to me as if the city of Minneapolis is going to need to find some big money to pay for the actions of these officers.

A sergeant with Davidson Metro told me a few months ago that many of the current generation of officers coming onto the force have a very different view of civilians carry than older officers...that many of the younger officers have been told and have come to believe that only cops should have guns. We can blame it on our school system or whatever but, at least according to him, the difference in view is significant.

That said, I'm wondering if that is part of the reason for incidents like this hapening?

That could happen to any of us in any major city. When my in-laws lived in Detroit they had all kinds of trouble with local police. My father in law was arrested for brandishing while standing on the street OCing(which is legal in Michigan w/o permit). He has a concealed carry permit. It cost him some lawyers fees but the chief of police made a formal apology in the local paper.

This was posted here a while ago. I'm guessing there is more to the story. This guy has a shady past and was leaving a bar at the time of the incident. There has only been one side of this story and that is from the guy who got beaten. I would like to hear the PD side.

They kinda lead you into thinking the cops just run up and started whoopin' his head in. Bet you a cup of coffee there was a LOT of attitude on King's part before the aggressive negotiations took place.

Haha, I like that phrase, "aggressive negotiations." I'm gonna have to steal that from you.

Always two sides to a story. I'm biting my fingers to keep from typing something else, though. :D

Yea, I am going to assume there is more to the story. The recording of police/abuse of power video leads me to think he probably had an attitude with these officers that night.

It should be noted that King was previously arrested and not charged after recording police in April — a video he says showed an abuse of power. Additionally, he was acquitted of manslaughter in 2008 after his pit bull mauled to death his 7-year-old son. King’s attorney, Michael Padden, says his client, then “has zero criminal record.â€

Maybe you guys are right - and if so it wouldn't be very bright on his part - but since when has 'failure to be polite to an officer' or 'giving an officer lip' been a crime? Personally, as long as they aren't doing anything illegal or actually threatening an officer, I don't think people deserve a beating, arrest, etc. simply because they don't ask, "How high?" when an officer says, "Jump."
