I'm just now getting around to showing off my newest best friend, other than the dog.

After much debate and decision making self-torture, I opted for a partial trade by means of a SxS Stevens 311E and ended up with what my heart was set on: The Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail 1911 .45

So far, I've only had the time for one range trip with some Atlanta Arms reloads and I was absolutely ecstatic. Thank goodness there was nobody else around, because if they turned around and saw me grinning from ear to ear, they might have thought something was wrong with me and fled the scene in a short fashion. The thing is just plain fun to shoot. I'm new to handguns anyway, but I'm especially new to well balanced, meticulously machined marvels of engineering.

I've got several hundred more rounds in my future before I carry this one much, but I'm happy to have it, and I might even get to participate in a soon-future IDPA event.

So now that I've posted the glamorous show off pics, I get to really show off with a few lame questions about lubrication.

I know I'm opening up a can of worms when asking for opinions from the peanut gallery... and I've read link after link after link of enough BS, heresay, and tall tales to make my eyes roll back in my head. But I'm asking specifically for this gun. (tight tolerances, breaking it in from new, casual shooter but will be carried as often as possible in a few months time, stainless, what more is there to know????)

...

...

Should I start this gun off with something like a militec treatment? Considering my rails are so tight, should I even bother with a grease, or just keep them oiled? (which seemed to be the factory solution)

I plan to keep this gun forever, quite literally. I want to break it in right and maintain my investment as best as I realistically can. I'm a newbie open for suggestions. Fire away.

I'll clean by gunking oil or CLP everywhere and then wiping it off leaving a film. Then i dab a bit of grease on most of the contact/wear points, especially with a .45.

I'd expect some feeding problems until its broken in pretty good. They generally make them too tight these days imo, but the accuracy is outstanding. Run it wet and keep pulling the trigger.

Very nice looking pistol.

I'm so jealous!! I've been wanting one of these so bad for 3 years now. I was really hoping Eddie was going to buy one awhile back so I could shoot his at our meet & shoots, but he didn't. So.... that means you're going to have to come to our June meet so I can shoot your gun!! :tough:

As a matter of fact, I gave Eddie the option of buying this very gun and I'd wait 'till another .45 came in to Hero Gear. Eddie decided otherwise. I guess we both wound up happy... but I feel a little happier. ;)

My next couple months are a little crazy, but if the meet turns out to be the latter weekend, I think I can make it. You'll just have to bring your Mosin with you and we'll work out a temporary parent trade for a few rounds.:usa: Seriously, it's that easy.

Thanks for all the compliments, guys. :D I'm looking forward to a long life together.

Does anybody have any suggestions for my questions, though? I guess it would behoove me to make that query in a thread of it's very own.
