SP101 Front Sight Replacement Question?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm going to attempt replacing the front sight with a XS Big Dot sight on my new Ruger SP101. Anyone have any experience changing it out?

Looking at it, it appears it is held in with only a roll pin (1/16"?) and probably some lock tight?

Would I be correct guessing I'll only need...

(1) A 1/16th inch pin punch if that's the size.

(2) A 1/16th inch metal drill bit if the XS Big Dot is not pre drilled.

(3) Red loctite. I have blue loctite, will that suffice?

Any hidden hazards I will wish I had known about before I screw it all up? Be on the look out for my next for sale ad, "Parts-O-Gun" for sale.

Thanks Guys.

Oh, I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for.

I've done it on mine. I recall having to drill the replacement sight. I'm not sure of the best way to hold it in while you drill it. (unless your new sight is already drilled)
