Politicians and Shirt Sleeves

Recommended Posts

What the heck is the deal with every politician that is running for office, feels like they have to take off the jacket and roll up their shirt sleeves before a speech? It's almost like it's in a play book somewhere.

I know that it's supposed to impart an attitude of "I'm ready to go to work for you". Right now, I just want them to impress me. Once they are elected, they can go to work for me. You rarely see an elected official with their sleeves rolled up. I guess that is supposed to tell me "OK, the work is over, let's relax."

I wouldn't let it bother you. If they don't impress you with their jackets on they're not going to impress with their shirt sleeves rolled up. But they do it because their campaign advisers, to whom they pay great sums of money, advise them to do so. It's just part of the marketing that goes along with campaigning.

I like to picture my president in a flannel shirt with cut off sleeves playing lead guitar for Lynard Skynard...

I'm wondering if that's one of the things that hurt Huckabee when he was running in 2007. Just something not right about him playing bass on "Pour Some Sugar on Me"....

It hurt him b/c he wore a suit....If he refuses to wear flannel cut off, he could at least roll up the sleeves like OP said...

Rich elitist blank politician wearing a suit that cost more than my car is NOT just like me.

Rich elitist blank politician wearing a pair of jeans and a dress shirt with sleeves rolled up IS just like me... and I'm voting for him based on that.

I am the American voter.
