I was loading some .223 ammo today, the overall length would vary a few thousands on some.Maybe .005 on some.I've had this happen on different calibers before.Anybody else have this happen?

Thanks Jeff

Yes. It's normal. It just means that the tip is inconsistent. If you have the dies set up correctly, that is. It even happens with match bullets. As long as the length to the ogive is consistent, they'll shoot fine.

Just checking to see if other people had this problem,or if it was my dies,They are RCBS,but I've had the problem on all calibers.

Thanks Jeff

yep. drove me crazy at first. then I started to measure the bullets and as Clod said, even the match bullets (both SMK and Hornady TAP) are all slightly different.

If you are using once fired or fired brass you will notice some brass may have the rim dinged or pulled slightly either from the extractor or hitting a hard surface such a s a rock or something on the ground. Since your brass sets "flat" on and in your shell holder some brass can press (or load) to a different OAL.

Also to keep things constant I try to run the same type of brass each run I do. Then when I change types (or brands) of brass I re-check everything. This may not be needed but just something I do.
