Scanning software for Mac?

There seem to be a few techie people and business owners around here so I'm hoping that you all may have experience in this area. We've filled up a filing cabinet and instead of starting on #2, I want to start scanning everything in and leave the paperwork in storage.

Some of the scans can just be an image other ones will have to be a searchable file (some of these will be receipts). Our scanner does OCR to PDF's, but we would like something that will help us keep everything organized. Does anyone have a recommendation for this? The only one I know about is that Neatworks program.

We've got Win7 on vmware as well, so if there is a really good program for windows only we would be open to trying it out (but really prefer just to have a mac application).

Being a code monkey, I hacked a free library called namezu (I think, or very close to that) which will do an index on all the PDF files based off their content (text, not images, but your OCR scans would be sufficient). A little effort gave me a search engine for all the files on that PC, so we could quickly locate the related pdfs with a search. It was a pretty clean solution to the issue. Its just code so OS does not matter --- it was originally done by chinese or japanese for unix and I got it to work on windows after I got rid of its STD. (laugh. std is a file unix people include in their code to keep it from compiling on windows).

If you have a filing cabinet's worth of paper, you're going to want a sheet-feed scanner regardless of what software you go with. I have a friend who owns a SMB and he still swears that the Neat Desk hardware/software suite is the best thing since bacon-scented body soap.

+1 for the scansnap. I have the portable version and it is good for up to 20 pages. I scan to Evernote which works as a document manager for my modest needs.

There is paperless and iDocument from icyblaze, I haven't used either.

Are fast/accurate/affordable scanners available? Have had several scanners but the most recent is a several-years-old microtek. They worked ok but all painfully slow. I don't even hook up the scanner unless there is sufficient reason to torture myself waiting on the slow-as-hell scanner. I'd buy 10 file cabinets before I would feed every single invoice and bill thru that microtek. It would be torture.
