Why I like Tennessee. (Sort of a positive rant)

That's because TN has enough Yankees to balance out the Southerners.

I'm hoping they are able to repeal the Hall income tax before I retire. It's a flat 6% tax on dividend and interest income (like 401K) after $1250/person or $2500/married couple. It accounts for 2% of the state's income, so it's gonna be a tough sell to politicians.

Otherwise, I agree that TN is a pretty good place. I've lived here all my life and other than Idaho it's the only place I'd ever wanna live.

What's not to love about Waffle House?

It's the damndest thing.

My pants fit fine going in, but somehow on the way home I'm inclined to loosen the belt a notch or two?

The belt then stays loose for almost a week then the pants magically fit fine!

Just one of the mysteries of the cosmos I guess...

We moved to the Knoxville area from Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the beginning of June 2011 and we love it here. The people here are so nice. It is not unusual to go out and end up in a 30 minute conversation with a complete stranger. That NEVER happened back in Missouri. You can say "hi" or something like that, but if you go any further people will think you're nuts. I don't think we'll ever leave Tennessee and go back to Missouri. Heck, I am already too used to having no state income or personal property taxes. That alone is reason to stay. I have also really gotten back to my conservative roots since I have moved here. It is refreshing to live in a place that is so anchored by morals, patriotism, and old Southern traditions. I love that. It is something that is becoming rare in other parts of the country.

We moved here because I took a great job opportunity. The job economy was not good back home. Also, the area is starting to get fairly thick with thugs filtering in from St. Louis and Memphis (no offense meant to the folks from Memphis).

You can't beat East Tennessee. I am still awestruck by the Smoky Mountain view I see from my front porch every morning.
