T/C .50cal Hawkin,Help

I need some help. I bought some guns at a estates sale a few years ago. One of the guns was a very nice Thomson Center 50cal Hawkin. It was part of a 3 gun black powder lot. I was going to get back into BP shooting, but it never happened. The Hawkin sat in the safe and now and I would like to sell it. I listed it in the classified's but Im not sure if I priced it right. I used GB as a guide (anywhere from $300 to $500+) I priced it at $400 is that about right? It's in excellent condition and I would guess it wasn't shot very much. Whats the going rate for the " Old School" Black Powder guns???????????

I don't know, 400 seems kinda of high though. Is it percussion of Flint? If you target the right group of people, you might get that for it. I'll check some sources I know, and see if I can offer you better help.

It's percussion. I just tried to price in line with GB, should of checked their completed auctions. I would rather see someone get some use out of it then have it take up space in the safe.

Thanks for your reply

Pawn shop price out the door is $125.00

That's what I'm finding too. I seen one yesterday for 200. But I don't think it was as nice as the OP said his was.

I've seen a couple of beauties....and I was offered ten dollars for my Great Plains Mountain Flinter. I'm also seeing those fake ML's for 50 or 60 bucks...you know the ones...look like modern bolt guns.

Thompson Center Hawken is a bastardized reproduction. Single wedge, coil spring lock. 1:48. They do have some pretty wood though.

When you get down to it..a gun is worth what you're offered for it and what you're willing to take.

The T/C Hawken kind of started the reproduction era of ML rifles 40 years ago. They have always been high quality, good wood, blued steel and made in America. Their success begat a host of Spanish and Italian repro guns which have undercut them somewhat in the market. Still, you may find someone who wants one and is willing to pay the higher tariff.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. I looked on GB and GA at their completed auctions and got a better idea on what they go for. I reduced my price to $300.

I've seen what $125 buys at a pawn shop and this is not one of them. Who ever had this one took very good care of it, no rust or pitting, brass is very nice and the wood is mint. Thanks for everyones help, I know what my bottom dollar is now or what it's worth in a trade. Bajabuc your right "When you get down to it..a gun is worth what you're offered for it and what you're willing to take".

This is why I still have mine --- people do not want to buy a good looking ML, they want a plastic one to get a jump start on deer season. I will hang mine over the fireplace before I let it go for pennies. I think we have the same one, or very close anyway.

I guess I will make a wall hanger out of it. Not in a big hurry to "give it away". May even buy some powder and balls and shoot it!

mine is in the back row of the safe, and it would take come fancy talk to get me to pull it out, but it looks like this:

mine is very similar, it has the patch box in the stock, a set trigger to give you a hair trigger accurate shot, and the hex barrel, etc. There are a couple of variations but this is the general item, I think my trigger guard is not quite that fancy.
