Reversal of decision about "inflamatory" issues

It's one thing to present an opinion, it's another to talk down to someone because their opinion is different. Once we remind ourselves that we can't change everyone elses' mind on something we feel strongly about, the better we can get along when it comes to the important things... such as the primary purpose for this site.

In a perfect world, folks would be able to discuss even controversial, emotional topics without attacking the other viewpoint or person who is expressing it. Expecting noone to disagree is naive. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing or having a controversial opinion, as long as we can intentionally be tactful and considerate at the same time. Going back to the analogy of how we expect people to act in our house which Tungsten brought up... I wouldn't presume to tell my guests what they can and can't discuss, but I would certainly take offense if they were rude about it, no matter what the subject, and put a stop to it. The issue comes into play when, for instance, there are children present in my house, there are obviously going to be spoken or unspoken rules about what is appropriate... and I think the staff here all agrees that since we don't always know who is reading this forum, we have a responsibility to maintain some decorum. So, maybe we should all be open to considering a more private area to discuss off-topic subjects, or, we need to at least all agree that some of these subjects are not healthy for any and every reader it might draw, and simply act accordingly... That's all this is about.

Here's proof that the TGO Moderators do listen and do try to make adjustments for the common good of the forum. We have decided to reverse our stance on forbidding "inflamatory" issues from being discussed in the Off Topic forum.

Issues of religion, race, sexuality, politics, etc. may be discussed in this forum so long as the discussions are handled maturely and the participants do not deride or belittle those who disagree. Anyone who cannot participate in a thread without resorting to schoolyard tactics of name calling or bullying will be ejected from the Off Topic forum completely.

This does not mean that bigotry, sexism, racism, religious persecution or comments made purely to insult or offend are OK. They are not. If a moderator deems that a post could be categorized as any of those things, then the post will be deleted and the TGO member responsible for posting it will be dealt with.

Finally, we expect you to police yourselves. If you disagree with or are offended by someone else's opinion on an issue... the answer is to STOP READING IT.

Thanks.

Now that you guys are finished patting yourselves on the back about your empathy with us commoners. Can we get back to the petty bickering? :D

Besides why not just make a "Rec Room" area that you have to request access to and make it clear that it's subject matter is WFO. It is your world, I personally would rule on high with an iron fist.anim_50cal.gif

If a sword of Damocles hangs over someone, they are in a situation where something bad is likely to happen to them very soon.

Well, just that they have to worry about something bad happening at any time.

Thanks Mods. :) If more of society could admit mistakes and reverse their decisions and stances once reason sets in we'd be in a far better place.

This is great.....and the best part is the last 3 letters in bold. I have been away for the past 2 days and unable to be in on all of these "hot topics", and after reading a few post, I decided it was best for me to move on along.

O and thanks for trusting us little people. Do you prefer anything specific on your crown? :)
