Good 1in Picatinny Scope Mount?

Recommended Posts

What is a really good set of 1 inch Picatinny Scope Mounts?

This will need to handle a 50 BMG, so no weak-sauce rings.

I might be asking for too much having said that, but I'd like it to be $60 or less.

I just picked up a cheapy Leupold 3-9x40 as a temp scope until I can drop the big cash for a Leupold Mark 4 ER/T 8.5-25x50mm (30mm) M5 with H58.

I'm just going to do some fun plinking between 100-350 yards for now anyway. When I get the good scope, then I'll start looking for longer ranges.

So help me out! I'm not sure which rings to stay away from and which are good while still being affordable. :)

$60 for a 50 BMG round not going to happen on a one piece mount Model 1 or burris under 100, but Vortex would be much better under 200 Larue even better over 200 and GG & G or Samson make one with a spring in the middle to help with recoil.

This is what a FCSA member told me.

I have those rings in 30mm for both my Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25X50 scopes on my AR-50 and my State Arms rifle.

3800 rounds thru AR-50

2600 rounds thru my used SA Shorty.

No problems and I use 1/2" risers on my AR under those rings (high cheekbone issue).

and some other 50cal guy...

Have those rings on my Steyr 50 HS, no problems.

Mine are 30mm, with an SWFA Super Sniper scope.

Was going to upgrade to 'better rings and scope', however, for all the shooting I do, am happy with rings and scope.

Theirs were 30mm and mine are 1 inch, so we shall see. :)

You left 1/2hr to early, a guy and his wife walked up to me when he seen my rifle on the table, and asked me what was my favorite gun, he was disapointed when I didn't choose the barrett, turns out he is a Barrett factory salesman, they were shooting a REC7, FNH (didn't see the FNH's) and a M16A1(<< I held this)...pretty cool dude...

Doh!!!! I'd liked to have seen those! :yum:

The wife was ready to go, though. :(

I could have shot every single one of those API rounds I had left (probably about 105 more in the can). :biglol:

Could you see the flash and hear the impact of the API round you fired out of my AR50 or yours? Those rounds tickle the crap out of me every time they impact!

So how do you like the AR50? I know it doesn't compare to a semi auto M82A1, but was it better/worse than you expected?

Really enjoyed meeting you and seeing those excellent shootin' irons you brought out as well!

We'll meet up at the range again soon! :usa:

BTW, you were talking about the bi-pod.... This is the one I'm going to put on mine:

And this mono-pod:

It'll basically be setup like this when I'm done with it.

You realize you were shooting 3/4" steel plate, at 200yds(8900# ft/lbs of bullet engery) and 300yrd (7900# ft/lbs of bullet engery) yes I heard and seen the flash, There was 2 guys next to me showering me with AK casings shooting the 200yrd plate, when they were reloading, I sent 5 API rounds rapid fire into that plate and knocked it down..

I'll allways say a bolt is more accurate then a semi, I do beleive if your going to shoot longer distances your going to need a more powerful scope, bipod and mono pad.

Just out of curiosity, why Leupold and not Nightforce?

I like Leupold stuff but I think a lot of their stuff is overpriced for what you get. I also like the reticles Nightforce has.

I compared what I wanted and the Nightforce comes up a little short. Nightforce didn't have a NXS with "first focal plane reticle" in a 25x or more scope. If they had the same features as the Leupold in 25x or more, I'd be all over it.

This is the only scope they list in the NXS line that has FFR.

Sounds like the AK guys were a bit disrespectful. I always check my surroundings before I fire to make sure my brass won't hit anyone or their guns. Maybe they got the message when you took out their target, though!

I'll be getting this Leupold to take care of that: http://www.leupold.c...5x50mm-30mm-m5/

I posted the Bi-pod and mono-pod I plan to get a couple posts up. It should sit as solid as your Barrett with those.

Forgot to address this....

That might be because all Leupold scopes are made in the USA. I speculate they might be using German (Bosch & Lomb, or Ziess?) glass as I don't think they make their own glass. I think some of the Nightforce scopes are made in Japan, but can't recall for sure. I know Nightforce only lists one scope of the NXS line as being made in the USA. :)
