Curious about knifemaking...

I saw that someone had a class on knifemaking a couple of months ago. I wish I had seen it, as I would have attempted to attend.

A couple of years ago, I took my son an a trip to WY for a survival camp. I met a guy from MN who made and sold his own knives. I have one from him. He would tell me a lot about making them and how much he enjoyed it. I am veruy curious about seeing it done firsthand, and maybe trying it for myself.

If there is anyone in the 30 mile radius of Alcoa/Maryville area, I'd love to come see your shop/methods. I am an absolute novice.

I just started making knives by way of stock removal (grinding away at the steel). I have one knife under my belt and several others underway. My dad and I attended Spots' class and made one from a RR spike together.

Here's my first one done,

Broomhead, those are good looking knives.

Spots, I am in Alcoa and would love to come see you guys working steel and maybe get some tips.

The weekends would definitely be best, since I work from home and need to stay busy. Let me know what weekends would be good for you. PM me when you get time.

When I was a lot younger I used to buy pre-ground knives and put different handles on them. I couldn't afford a belt grinder. My equipment was an old washing machine motor that I converted into a buffer and hand tools. I would have loved to grind my own knives. Today, my presbyopia would probably drive me nuts trying to do that kind of work.
